About Sermon plus (+)
Over the years sermons and preaching have changed. They have evolved because the world in which the Church is set has changed. There are lots of new and different ways to communicate — and many people now talk about 'information overload'.
But the purpose of preaching remains the same. It is to encourage; inspire; and challenge
the people of God for their lives in the world. A sermon can also be a way for the
preacher to make connections between Christian experience and the Bible (written
long ago and far away). It can ask 'what is the Good News for the people of Battyeford?'
and ' where in this place do we see the signs of God's Kingdom?'
Not everything can be said in a single sermon (thank goodness!!). Sermon + is simply a way of providing a bit more information not directly included in the sermon. So, if an idea has been drawn on or a quotation made, Sermon + is the place you will find it. Along with a brief recap about the sermon this sheet will be something you can look at if you want to think further about the theme of the day.
With different preachers there may not be a Sermon + every Sunday,
