    What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi Chuan is a holistic martial art based on the concepts and principles of internal energy (Chi) that has become popular worldwide as an effective tool for harmonising mind, body and spirit. Its low impact, smooth, flowing movements are uniquely applicable to all: whether you are young, old or in good or poor health.

Although its health benefits are well documented, what is less well known is that each of the movements can be used as a basis for an effective system of self-defence based on using the soft power of internal energy instead of the more normal hard external force.

    A Worthwhile Quote

"Man is probably the only creature on earth that forms habits that are detrimental to his health and the smooth functioning of his body. Society has caused more damage than nature ever has. Just look at tight clothes that restrict movement, high heel shoes that tip the pelvis, chairs that hurt the back and shorten the hamstrings, cigarettes that restrict our breathing. When we practice Tai Chi we form a bond with our bodies that allows us to move beyond the limits of destructive habits into the open space of joyful and conscious movement." - Michael Gilman in '108 Insights into Tai Chi Chuan'

Tai Chi For Health

All our classes cover Tai Chi for health and harmony. You will learn about internal energy ('Chi') and how to use it to heal, strengthen and grow in mind, body and spirit.

Learning to be still, calm and centered, you will experience the difference between using internal energy and the usual localised, emotional and 'external' force that we all too often employ.

Additionally each Tai Chi movement will be posture tested by myself and your fellow students, giving you that 'hands-on' transmission of knowledge which is essential for reaping the full benefits of Tai Chi training.

You will also be shown practical applications for each posture and how Tai Chi concepts and Principles easily transfer to, and enhance, your everyday life.
