The Teacher: Nick Cheang
After experiences in styles such as Judo, Wu Shu Kwan, Sun Yee Do and
Tae Kwan Do throughout the 80's, I settled on Wing Chun in 1988 and was
happy in that style until a chance encounter in 1999 led me to Master
John Ding's academy.
One lesson was enough for me to realise that here was a man who both knew and could teach the internal method of martial arts. This being something I had always wanted to learn, I did my best to 'empty my cup' and start again from scratch.
In December 2002 I qualified as a JDIATCC instructor and shortly afterwards stepped back from a busy and successful career as an IT Company Director within the International / Cross-border Life Insurance industry in order to study and teach with Master Ding on a full-time basis.
Aside from helping at the John Ding Academy HQ in London (www.johndingacademy.com), I have assisted Master Ding at seminars, retreats, open days and bespoke corporate training days, as well as appearing in a Tai Chi DVD, a television documentary for Channel 4, various public performances, a Tai Chi stage show in Düsseldorf, Germany and more recently an interview on the Saturday lunchtime show for BBC Radio Northampton.
I moved from London to Northampton at the end of 2006, yet I continue
to study with Master Ding on a regular basis and take an active role in
his expanding organisation: as a member of the corporate steering committee;
an editor and regular contributer to Tai Chi and Alternative Health magazine
(TCAH); and by offering business consultancy on an ad-hoc basis.
I am keen to spread Tai Chi Chuan and teach everything that has been passed down to me to those with a genuine interest and enthusiasm for it.
As an aside, the website address, Chung Gong, can be translated as 'to make shine again' or 'to restore to its former glory' and is part of my full Chinese name, Cheang Jung Yuen Chung Gong.
Whatever your interest in Tai Chi, be it health, spiritual or self-defence, so long as you are of good character and pleasant attitude you are welcome.
