Volunteering with Sheffield M.E. Group

I became a member of Sheffield M.E. Group in 2004; a local support group for people suffering from M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). Throughout my illness, they were of enormous help and support to both me and my family; particularly when my health was at its worst.

When my health had improved sufficiently, I offered my services to the charity as a volunteer. At first, I was given the task of calling new members to welcome them and tell them about the services offered by Sheffield M.E. Group. Alongside this task, also wrote articles for the newsletter and helped at the charity-organised events. Additionally, I created and launched a totally new website for the charity and was nominated their official Webmaster.

In May 2007, I was elected a Trustee of Sheffield M.E. Group. This meant that I and the other Trustees were responsible for the running of the charity. Like most of the other Trustees, I had M.E. at the time and held this position solely to help people in the community that suffer from the illness.
