Under the wires at Carlisle Britannia class 70013 Oliver Cromwell drifts into Carlisle station. She last visited on the 11 Aug 1968.

Two class 5s 45407 & 45231 were there to take the Charter back to Liverpool via the Settle.

The narrow gauge don't miss out, why let a wheel chair stop you from taken pics.

Oliver says have a good trip I off for to the pub for a pint.

Oliver Cromwell returns to Carnforth via shap. Next visit 23rd August on the Kingfisher rail tour to Appleby & Carlisle. details on Aug page one.

SCOTS GUARDSMAN RETURNS 16.08.08

Carlisle station saw a ghost locomotive from Kingmoor 12A arrive at Carlisle on the Thames Clyde Express.

The front end of 46115 Newly refurbish at Carnforth formally 10A. She as had a checkered life since she left Carlisle. Many thanks to all who have looked after her, and prevented Scots Guardsman from the scrap yard.

On platform 3 70013, she is now part of the national collection & spent many years a Diss Garden Centre Norfolk. A recent overhaul as put Olly back on the main line.

Carlisle Driver Gordon Hodgson with a clean look, it wont be for long once he sets off. He said if someone said to me in 1968, I would be driving this charter 40 years on, I would have lost the bet.

Platform 4 is crowded to the end for the departure.

The pair are off in fine form, there will be back in 10 years for the 50th. Will I, Brian.

Back to the future normal service resumed.

SCOTS GUARDSMAN RETURNS 16.08.08

Dave Good Fellow & Geoff Hampshire talked of the old days when a number of the Scots could be seen at Carlisle in the 1960s.

The return journey from Carlisle was over the Settle a familiar route for the Scots, which were introduced by the L.M.S in 1927 by Henry Fowler. Rebuilt by William. A. Stanier in 1943 with tapered boiler. There were a total of 41 in the class.
