Mr Watt has further strengthened the North of Scotland's great success over the past ten years with his children Juniors and Cadets winning a total of 10 medals two of which were Gold for the Girls Sara Calder and Morgan Bertram in section 8- 9 years. Shannon Lafferty was just 0.1 away from the Gold to gain silver. Chantelle Jamieson just missed out in the medals due to a broken nose and was not able to fight on even though she was one of the favourites to win. Chloe Calder pulled out all the stops and tried to keep her sister's record but finally picked up a very well earned Bronze
Lisa Calder lost out on the quarter finals by half a point with an excellent performance. At the last WKC World championships In 2006, Lisa, now 16 years, beat the Russian Champion but this year ran in to a very large German National champion who put Lisa into 4th position to take Gold in age group 15-17 Years Cadets. George Gibson and Tom Summers both picked up Bronze in the Sparring (Kumite) and Francesco Corbetta a Bronze in Cadets Boys 15-17 Kumite.
Alan Stuart, Hugh Stewart and reserve Ross Smith lifted Bronze in the Team Boys Kumite going out to a very strong Russian Team making them the Bronze medallists in the largest Junior and Cadets championships in the world. The Boys went on to a very respectable 4th place in the team Kata.
The children's squad have been training 4 times a week for the past year giving up nearly every Sunday as well with Ronnie Watt who has done extraordinary things for the young people in the North of Scotland for over 40 years. The squad, self funded, have raised over £20.000 to attend the championships by holding fund raising events throughout the year. The squad is looking forward to attending WKC Junior and Children's Championships to be held in Venice in June 2010.
Following up on the Visit to Slovenia we have now the ranking and medals for the NKF Squad - a world class performance
