NKF Prepares to take on the world's best

The National Karate Federation which has been based in the North East of Scotland for over 40 Years is set to welcome Three World Masters on the 8th and 9th of May to hold a World class training course. Ronnie Watt Director of Shotokan for the WKC is pleased to be welcoming the Masters to Aberdeen. Ronnie Watt 8th Dan is one of the Highest ranked instructors in the world and a former national champion.

The course is a national seminar for Beginners to black belts and will concentrate on preparing the Students for the European and World Championships to be held in Belgrade and Venice. The course will run for 5 hours per day with the emphasis being on the squad members who have been attending squad training throughout the year and will use this in their preparation for the European championships only a month away and the Children and Cadets world championships held October in Italy. The black belts will be examined to world level standard. At 5th Dan they can only be graded by attending a five styles world event and must be over 50 years of age.

Along with Ronnie the Three world Masters that will be teaching the course are Fritz Wendland, Paul Kee and Alf Ronny Fagarland. Fritz is the founding president of the WKC and one of the first ever-black belts in Germany. Fritz has organised and run many World and European Championships. Alf Ronny also has a wealth of experience in Karate he is graded 5th Dan and is the President of NKF Norway. He has one of the Top Norwegian squads that compete all over the world.

Paul is 15 times Scandinavian Champion and at 7th, he is the Chief Instructor of his association in Sweden. Paul has been invited by Ronnie to accompany the NKF squad as an official Karate Coach to the World Championships.

To date the NKF has 32 medals to its credit over 12 years and competes with the styles Shotokan and Wado Ryu. At the last World Championships, the children lifted 11 Gold, Silver and Bronze medals out of 1900 competitors from around the world. WKC World cadet champion, Lisa Calder along with the squad are using the course to give them experience in lifting more medals at the world championships. Lisa will be trying to regain her World Title from 2006 where she beat the Russian champion.
