Layton does it again with the biography of Ronnie Watt 8th Dan

Watt has finally been exposed as being what many ‘in the know’ have believed for years. His anecdotal and documentary evidence is expertly analysed and confirmed by one of karate’s most prominent researchers and biographers, Dr Clive Layton. Those of us who grew up in Scottish karate have always appreciated that Watt has become not simply one of the most senior Shotokan stylists in the world today with a pedigree well beyond reproach, but that he is also an individual who has lived and breathed the art, at the highest of levels.

Layton’s portrayal of the subject’s personal history in particular and Scottish karate in general, is precise and factual, painting a picture, which covers the highs and lows in a manner that offers no offence. The book and the manner in which it is accurately presented, encapsulates the personality of Watt as a true karate master and a man whose whole life has been built on ethics, honesty and integrity and a very obvious passion for Shotokan karate.

Like Layton’s previous works, this is a must read for all serious Shotokan karateka, at whatever level and whatever depth of interest. It offers an intriguing insight into karate’s colourful past in Scotland from a man who was at its heart. Watt is simply a karateka who has not only done it all, but he has done it with and against the best. I couldn’t put it down, a definite one for the library.

From the typesetter:

Dear Ronnie,
It was a pleasure working on your book, which I must confess I read whilst working on it. It must be quite fulfilling to be able to put your achievements into a volume which you can pass on to friends and family and I am very sure others would be equally inspired to read of your successes. I will look forward to receiving a copy of the printed book and am sure that Clive will keep me informed of its success.

Kind regards
Philip Lesnik
