Site visited June/July 2002

Mobile reception OK.

To find site:-
Once on Millau ring road follow signs to 'Les Camping' watch out for signs to Les Rivages. Make sure you only attempt to enter site at the 'entrée' sign as there is an earlier sign which is a bit confusing.

Camping Les Rivages has about 300 pitches, mostly for tourers/tents although there are some mobile homes but these tend to be in their own areas. The site is open from 1st May until 30th September.
The pitches radiate out from the reception area and are of a good size and level, most with plenty of shade. Water and electric points are handy to all pitches. Some of the pitches next to the River Dourbie appear to be a bit smaller but in reality seem perfectly OK.
This site has many superb facilities including squash and badminton courts, a lovely swimming complex, restaurant and takeaway. There are about 4 toilet blocks dotted around the site but out of season not all will be open. There is a small shop selling basics and bread but it is only open until 11.00am. The site is in walking distance of Millau but during the summer heat some may find this difficult.
By and large this is an excellent site although I did have a couple of grips. Whilst I appreciate that the site was not full I felt that only having one toilet block open was a bit mean. The shop was only open for 3 hours a day and there were occasions when it had sold out of bread by 10.00am, hardly what you expect from a 4 star site. This is only one of many sites situated quite close together in Millau. For those with smaller outfits/motor caravans/tents there appear to be some lovely sites out in the Gorges.

The beauty of this area is the three gorges, Tarn, Jonte and Dourbie. All are worth the car journey and we were surprised how quiet they were compared to the Ardeche. Close by is Roquefort where you can tour the cheese making process? For those interested in Knight Temperlers there are several sites in the area. There are several supermarkets in the town but the largest is on the Cahors road.

Site visited: 2003

We stayed here for only 4 nights on the way to a longer stay at a campsite in Spain and wished we had stayed longer. Chateau de Lacomte is owned and run by an English family, the Coes (who featured on a TV programme about couples who left Britain for the good life in France), so no language barriers here!

The campsite is set in the middle of the countryside in the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park and is very quiet. It has a great swimming pool overlooked by the bar and restaurant where the English cooks turn out tasty regional dishes that apparently surprised the local French population with its quality (they don't think Les Rost Boefs can cook).

The pitches are very large and generally divided up by hedges

As I said, the campsite is in the middle of the countryside and you'll need a car or bikes to travel around - even to the nearby village which always seemed to be shut. Rocamadour is a twenty minute drive away and is definitely worth a visit. It's an old medieval village perched on the side of a cliff.

The Dordogne River is also a short drive if you fancy a lazy canoe trip.

The campsite can be found in the Camping and Caravanning Club's Carefree Holidays brochure.

We would like to let you know about a lovely campsite near the river Lot in Aveyron.

Our extended family has stayed there several times over the last few years and recommend it highly for it's peaceful, scenic setting and warm welcome from the owners Jean-Laurent and Karine Verdeaux.

It is a two star graded site with 65 easily accessible pitches all near the river, many have some shade. There are two unpretentious toilet blocks with usual facilities, plenty of hot water, plus washing machine.
On-site are childrens play equipment, table tennis, tennis and boules. Canoeing is available nearby and great local food at several markets in the area.

There is access from the site via pebbly beaches to the beautiful river Lot, which flows shallow and fast near the site with good deeper swimming areas a little further downstream.

The snack bar serves good value local food, with various "entertainment" evenings. More information and photographs are available using the web address above.

The atmosphere is relaxed, the local villages (St Parthem, Conques, La Vinzelle ) and countryside really beautiful and it is certainly a place we will return to again.

Hope this information can be used !!
