The 'Pots and Pans' Walk!

This walk took place in June 2003, and was one of our toughest ever walks. It was a hot sunny day, with temperatures up in the high twenties, and hard climb via the longest route for us old codgers. In spite of the effort it was well worth it for the view.

You can find out a little more about "Pots & Pans" from the following site: Mysterious Britain:

  • pots 1). The 'survivors' taking a well deserved break at the war memorial on the top of the hill. (146kb)
pots 2). David and Clifford taking the view (having a skive!). That's me - the overage teenager wearing his baseball cap back to front! (97kb)
pots 3). This picturesque view was taken half way up the route (it was really just an excuse for me to stop and have a rest!). (97kb)
pots 4). This was the view to the right. (87kb)
pots 5). On this shot you can see the war memorial at the top of the hill in better detail - note the poppies, and the names on the plaques. This monument was believed to have been built around 1923. (63kb)
pots 6). This was a shot of Doreen scrambling up the rocks to try and rescue a couple of bottles of beer, which some previous visitor had forgotten to remove. (29kb)
pots 7). You can see from this close up shot that climbing up there was a lot harder than it looked. (61kb)
pots 8). The Bottle of Beer in the Stone: I couldn't resist having a go, I managed to extract the two bottles from the small pool of water that was cooling them, but since doing this didn't confer any Excalibur type powers on me, I put them back in case the original owner ever decided to return for them. (34kb)
pots 9). I'm not saying that some of our group are overweight, but the monument now looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa!. (42kb)
pots 10). The class of 2003 - a souvenir shot for those who won't be back to attempt it again next year. (67kb)
