The Stanedge Tunnel Visit!


The Huddersfield Narrow Canal, was officially re-opened to navigation between Ashton under Lyne and Dobcross on April 9th 2001, and the section between Dobcross and Huddersfield on the 1st of May 2001. The first electric tug took a journey through the Standedge tunnel (reputed to be one of the longest, some three and a quarter miles, deepest and darkest canal tunnels in the world) that day, and in May 2002 we visited the area and were able to take a short trip into the tunnel.
