INTERESTS IN LLANGOLLEN AND NEAR TO CLOUD HILL

Chirk Castle is a magnificent Marcher Fortress built 700 years ago and lived in continuously since constructed. It is a National Trust property and is only a short walk of approx 45 mins across the fields from Cloud Hill. The land on which Cloud Hill is situated was once part of Chirk Castle Estate. Opening times differ throughout the seasons therefore it is always wise to check before visiting.

FRONCYSYLLTE AQUEDUCT

The Froncysyllte Aqueduct is a world famous early industrial revolution cast iron and stone miracle of engineering. It was designed and constructed by Thomas Telford between 1795-1805 spanning the River Dee valley 1007 feet long 19 Arches and 126 feet high at its maximum. The Aqueduct carries the Llangollen Canal,walkers,and school children every day and is a definate must see, it is only 35 minutes walk along the canal from Cloud hill. This structure is the same Aqueduct featured in Fred Dibnah's television programmes and also the village is the home of the world famous Fron Male Voice Choir.

canal THE WHARF LLANGOLLEN

In the centre of Llangollen, about 10 minutes by car from Cloud hill along the A5, you will find trips on the Thomas Telford narrow boat carrying passengers over the Froncysyllte Aqueduct and also trips by horse drawn canal boat along the feeder canal not used by power craft. Approximately 20 minutes walk from the wharf will bring you to the Horseshoe Falls, the crescent shaped wier on the River Dee near to the Chainbridge Hotel where refreshments may be purchased. You will also walk past Llangollens famous motor Museum.

Just outside Chirk also on the Llangollen Canal is the impressive combined rail and Thomas Telfords'Canal Aqueduct. The canal crosses the Ceiriog Valley and vanishes into a hillside tunnel almost quarter of a mile in length, a walk through the tunnel is an experience not to be missed. Whilst visiting the Ceiriog Valley it is always worth taking a short run by car up the valley to visit the West Arms a lovely old pub.

The Llangollen Canal passes under the A5 approximately 200 metres from Cloud Hill and runs behind our home also about 150 metres distant. Cloud hill is situated half way between the Trevor Marina and Chirk Marina where canal boats can be hired for day use or for longer. We regularly co-ordinate with both Marinas for pre and post hire period B&B accommodation.
