As club captain may I welcome you to our club.
It does not matter if you have joined the club
yet or not, I would suggest that you come to our
meetings held on the 1st Friday in each month
and get a feel of the club.

Anybody coming to meet a new group of
people they do not know feels apprehensive.
We know that, so we try to make you welcome
right from your first visit, by talking to you and
telling and showing you what goes on. But after
your first visit you are not sure if it's for you,
don't just not appear again, come the following
month and give it another go, or get your
questions answered. We are happy for you to
come several times before you decide.
We are a running club, we enjoy running, but we cater for more than just runners. A
number of our current members do not race, some do not even run!! Some come just to
keep fit and there are members that are there purely for the social side, yes we do
indulge in the odd pint!!

We try to be a very social club and have various club outings throughout the year. There
is a weekend in Northumberland and another in Scotland, race meetings, social
evenings with other clubs, our Christmas party / presentation evening, a club handicap
race, cross country and regular training evenings.

Yes I can be the one chasing up people to support the club at race events but if you do
not wish to race or run I will not pressure you. You will be just a welcome at the club as
anyone else.

Members range from teenagers to members approaching octogenarian status, male and
female, fast and slow. So there is no way that you can say, "club running is not for me, I
only run slowly - they will leave me behind". There will be people of your standard at the
club (unless your names Paula Radcliffe!).
