The Chairman opened the meeting by
briefing the membership on the Committee Meeting held after last months normal
meeting.
There were two main issues to brief
the membership on, the first being that Ron Wild was co-opted onto the committee
as minute taker and an additional member to add opinion to any deliberations.
The second issue was the debate on whether the club should affiliate to UK
Athletics or the newly formed ARC. The Chairman outlined the debate surrounding
the various governing bodies and the subsequent decision to stay with UK Athletics
Joyce then read a letter from UK Athletics
which had been sent out to various club secretaries’ announcing that there was
a new Road-race Leadership Group established. The leadership group had drawn representatives
from the major road race events such as the London Marathon, Great North Run,
Nottingham Marathon etc. to deal with the issue of road running being marginalised
at the expense of track and field. Their remit was to review such issues as permits,
standards, unattached levies and the development of elite runners. The letter
also made reference to ARC, saying that UKA was sympathetic to their
intensions. It was also indicated that London marathon places would only be
made available to clubs affiliated to UK Athletics.
Terry Richardson thought that ARC
had already done its job by prompting UKA to undertake such a review.
Clowne Cross Country – The
Chairman thanked all the club’s runners and organisers. 18 Clowne runners ran
in all four races more than in any other club. Congratulations to Andy Ward who
was the overall individual winner and Stuart Platts who won the over forties
category.
Andy Ward thought it would be a
good idea to have all the medal winners officially awarded their medals on the
day. There was some debate as to the practicality of this but it might be a
good idea to do something at the annual presentation evening.
John Proffitt thanked Dennis for organising
the sandwiches from Greencore which were used at the post race buffet; all
agreed Dennis had done an excellent job.
John also suggested sending the
Greencore organisation two complimentary Clowne marathon places - the club
agreed it was a good idea.
Dave Johnson mentioned the overcrowding
at the cricket club venue and the health and safety implications of having a
large number of people crowded in the building. Some of the membership thought
Clowne College could be an option in the future but it may be expensive and
there is no bar facility. The Chairman said it was something the club would consider.
Elmton Chase / Summer X county / Handicap Race - The Chairman mentioned that Les had received an email from
Reg and Karen Bestwick. They would like to set up a trail race series and would
like to include the Elmton Chase as part of the series. The Chairman offered
the membership chance to comment on the proposal and in general the membership was
happy to make the race part of the series.
Terry had talked to the current
Landlady at Elmton but has not officially booked the venue yet.
Handicap Race – Terry still to talk
to Andrew Porter.
Summer X-country – no further information
as yet, Killamarsh would be organising the event.
Clowne Half Marathon – No
issues as yet, Les was currently in the process of updating the race entry form.
Club / Membership Secretary – in Dennis’s absence
the Chairman read out the various communications, including one from UK
Athletics regarding ‘David Farrow’ a coach who has had his licence revoked for
five years.
There were also two letters
requesting sponsorship from the club:-
Alice Sheen – would be running the
London Marathon in aid of CLIC Sargent, a cancer charity for children. Donations
could also be made securely on line at @ www.justgiving.com/alicesheen
Graham Sheen was also running the
London Marathon in aid of the Neurofibromatosis charity. More information can be found at www.nfauk.org
A £50 donation was proposed and
agreed for each participant.
Dennis would like to thank the
membership for the response to his letter, emails etc, enabling the majority of
the membership fees to be collected on time.
Club Captain – Dave
reported that training night was still going well with 15 to 20 people
attending.
Club Treasurer – Lewis
said that the club had received £6 income from the X-country series, out goings
had included the fees for the X- country (cricket club hire) and the clubs
affiliation to UKA. Lewis also indicated the current cash in hand and account
balance.
Social Secretary – John
mentioned two races to note; the Maltby Memorial race on the 25th
April and the Abbey Dash on Wednesday 4th July.
The Chairman thanked John for the
effort he had put in on the recent revised club standards.
John reminded the membership that
it was up to the individuals to inform him on attaining any of the new
standards.
Grand Prix – Steve
reported that there had been no GP races in the last month so there was nothing
to distridute.
In response to a question from the
Sarah Coakly the following race dates were confirmed.
Bawtry Forest Trail – Sunday 16th
September
Clumber 10k - 7th October
Askern 10 - 12th August
Retford Half Marathon – Sunday 23rd
September
President – Terry
announced that Trevor, Lewis, Geoff and himself were all doing ‘Snowdon’.
Worksop Membership – no
issues
AOB – Andy outlined some
new training venues he and Paul Sadler had looked at for future training nights.
Finally Dave and Louise were
welcomed as new members to the club, the Chairman apologised for not doing this
at the start of the meeting due in part to the meeting starting late because
Andy Ward and Lewis Banton were in the bar.
Meeting Closed 20:20
Next Meeting Friday 4th May 2007
