MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF CLOWNE ROAD RUNNERS FRIDAY 5 th August 2005
Apologies:
Dave Keeling
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed as a true record.
Clowne Half Marathon - Greg reported back on the embroidery options for the bobble hats. The hats embroidered on Sandy’s machine had not come out so well. A number of other samples were passed around for the membership to look at.
Les also read out a letter from a professional firm who would do the embroidery at a cost of £1 per hat. Les voiced his concern on the cost of the embroidery on top of the cost of the hats. Debate ensued on the merits of mementos and their relative cost. It was felt that the current race entry fee of £6 was modest in comparison with other races and consideration should be given to raising the cost in future years.
It was proposed that the more professional design at the additional cost of £1 should be adopted, this was accepted.
The club would like to thank Greg and Sandy for their efforts in investigating the options available in getting the bobble hats embroidered.
Les continued to report on the run up to this years race; 290 clubs and shops have had entry forms sent to them. This year entry forms would not be sent to unattached runners.
Positive responses had been coming back from the various sponsors. Car parking could be a problem and would need to be looked at in the near future.
Terry Richardson asked if the Council would be providing toilet facilities again, Les replied that it was still to be sorted out and he would do it on his return from holiday.
Derbyshire police had been contacted and the club have had a response back.
Further Matters arising – The Chairman mentioned that he had received a letter from Becky Keeling thanking the club for the donation of an MP3 player.
Handicap Race – Geoff Jackson reported that there had been a discussion on the night of the race suggesting that it would be a good idea to have a trophy awarded to the winner of the handicap race. Further more an ‘old’ trophy could be re-cycled with the winners name (including past winners) engraved on it. The suggestion was proposed and accepted. The trophy will be ready for presentation night.
Andrew Porter handed out the handicap race result and commented that the turn-out had been disappointing with just 15 people taking part.
Grand Prix – Steve handed out the ‘off-road ‘results and mentioned having difficulty in obtaining the Hope Wakes results. Steve then distributed ‘on road’ results; no overall results were available on the night.
The next Grand Prix event was the Askern10 miles on 14th August 2005.
Steve also handed out the Road race nomination slips for next year.
Ladies night – Michelle reported that it was not going well and would not be continuing because of the limited support.
Clowne Road Runner Homepage -Terry raised the issue of the internet pages not being up to date. The membership thought that it was alright currently but the reference to the Ladies training night would need to be removed.
Les to contact Peter Goucher to remove any reference to ladies training night.
The Captain made a plea to encourage more people to come to the club training night.
Dennis asked about a register of club members. A database of members was required. Terry would try and get something to Dennis ASAP. Currently there are 62 paid up members.
Graham Sheen – asked if the ‘Good for age’ categories could be extended to include 5k and 20 miles. – This issue should be raised at the AGM, (in good time).
Terry Richardson gave details of pick-up points for the Scotland trip.
John Proffitt raised the issue of profits from the Elmton Chase. How would they be distributed? Previously the club had mentioned the Tsunami appeal.
Les replied saying that because the Tsunami appeal had been wound-up, monies would be used to benefit local causes. This year the money had be used to purchase the present for Becky Keeling, with donations to the Elmton Well dressing committee and the Derbyshire footpaths officer.
