Graham & Kath Shawcroft
Terry Richardson
Trevor Platts
Andrea Jackson
Steve Shipp
The minutes of the previous meeting
were read and agreed as a true record by a small but select group of members.
Committee Meeting Minutes of July 7th – The Chairman read out the main points
from a letter Dennis had sent out via the web site after the committee meeting.
The main subject was the Grand Prix. It had been discovery that one of the Grand
Prix races had been cancelled and the committee decided that the off-road Grand
Prix would now consist of 6 races from 9 as opposed to the normal 6 from 10.
Also part
of the discussion was the Barlborough Festival – the participation of Clowne Road Runners was raised and Les
mentioned that the club needed to be represented in order to gain a share of
the funding through the Sports Action Group. The easiest option would be to
organise a fun run around the Barlborough field (Barlborough Country Park), volunteers
were sort from the membership, Les said he would provide some race numbers and to
try and secure some prizes for all participants. The Chairman said he would
co-ordinate the event. John Harrison suggested that a display board with
photographs and information about Clowne Road Runners might be worthwhile, the
idea had recently worked well at the Sports Relief Mile organised by Worksop
Harriers.
Bassetlaw Twinning Camp – the Chairman mentioned that the club had recently made a
donation to the event. In return an invitation had been made to the club to
attend. Geoff and Terry had attended and thought it a worthwhile trip.
Elmton Chase - all agreed that the event went well, parking was just about OK. There was
good hospitality from the Landlady who was very
supportive. The use of the Barn Owl Restaurant was seen as a good idea.
Handicap Race - again all went well, many thanks to John Proffitt for suggesting
the idea of a team event. The format will be used again when the race is run next
year.
Summer X-country – reasonably well attended, there was excellent catering
from the Barlborough Babes and a good attendance from individuals for marshalling
duties. The main disappointment was that only a handful of runners from
Killamarsh and Retford attended. However an email had been sent to John Ogle thanking
Handsworth for their support.
Clowne Half Marathon (CHM) –
the event was beginning to gain momentum, entry forms were now available. Tony
at Buckingham Insurance had pledged a further £100 towards the cost of the Porta
loos. Dennis has written to Highland Spring asking if they are willing to
sponsor the water stations. Les would check with Steve Shipp that the shoe bag mementoes
had been ordered.
Club Relay Event – Andy had approached the Chairman with a new idea on
revamping the proposed event which would incorporate the training sessions. The
membership thought that it was a good idea and a note would be put on the web
site.
Grand Prix – no news as Steve
was on holiday, although it was thought that he was struggling to get the
results for the Castleton fell race. Dave Binch was thought to be the only Clowne
runner who participated.
Bolsover Award – The club had
nominated Lewis, Trevor and Terry. Maurice Jones had also been nominated by the
District Council.
As a side note the Chairman
congratulated John Proffitt for his Gold medal for competing in 10 Swaledale
marathons.
Club Secretary – The Chairman
thanked Dennis for the recent edition of the Clowne Chronicle.
Derbyshire County Athletics
Association had written to Dennis regarding the bid for additional funding. The
letter said that Clownes’ bid maybe considered, it also outlined future actions
with the decision date for the bids being the 24th July.
Dennis had also received a letter
from East Retford saying that as an incentive to increase participation in
their half marathon a number of selective clubs will be offered places at a
reduced rate. Clowne would be offered 8 entries at this reduced rate.
President
– Terry was not present but he had told the Chairman that
membership has increased from 62 up towards the 100 mark. Dennis said he was
still in need of a database with all the memberships’ details.
Treasures report – There had
been £14 spent on a water container, initially used at the summer x-country.
It was also mentioned that £190 had
been raised for the Sarah Dickson Trust by the club. A great effort by all
concerned an the club wished all the best to Becky, Dave and Julie
Social / Publicity – thanks were
expressed for Lyn and her team for their excellent catering skills at the
handicap race.
John asked if the Barlborough Babes
would be interested in doing the catering for the presentation night this year.
It was suggested that if Lyn wished to continue with the catering that would be
meet with the approval of the club and no further action would be necessary.
Barlborough Babies – no issues
AOB
Les Banton raised the issue of Greg
Goddard missing the bus on the recent Scotland trip and the subsequent actions
that followed. Les thought that the club committee members should retain a confidential
list of member’s mobile phone numbers, so that in an unusual situation or an
emergency the committee would have contact numbers available to them. The Chairman
said he would organise a committee meeting to discuss further.
Derbyshire AAA championship:
Maurice asked the question how many people participated as part of the CHM, Les
did not know off-hand; Maurice wondered if it was worth continuing with it for
the CHM. It was thought that incorporating it as part of the CHM it was good for
prestige.
