MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF CLOWNE ROAD RUNNERS

Friday 3rd August 2007

Apologies:

Andrea Jackson, Ron Wild, Sarah Coakley, Graham Sheen, Lewis Banton, Terry Richardson & Steve Shipp.

Minutes & Matters Arising:

The minutes of the previous meeting, Friday June 1st 2007 were read and agreed as a true record.

Elmton – The Elmton Chase was well attended and supported and was a successful evening. The Chairman thanked everyone for their involvement on the night.

Handicap – The Handicap evening was also a great success, both the race and the social event afterwards.  The Chairman passed on thanks to John’s wife and her group of helpers for putting on a splendid meal and also thanked all others involved in the evening. There were two presentations during the evening, firstly to John Profitt and B Williams on their retirement at 65 and also to John and Trevor on becoming life members of the Clowne Road Runners Club.

The Club has proposed that in memory of Pat Müller, the handicap race should be renamed for 2008 to ‘The Pat Müller Handicap Race’, but will not go ahead with changing the name on the trophy etc., until permission for this idea has been given by Mo Müller. It was felt that a sensitive approach to this idea was appropriate.

Ron Wild – The Chairman reported Ron’s departure from the club to a new life in Scotland. A small presentation was held before Ron and his family left and the Chairman will e-mail him to see how the family are settling in.

Summer X Country – The latest update from Killamarsh is that the suggested date for the x country is Tuesday 11th September, 7.00pm at the usual venue.

Clowne Half Marathon – Les reported that the prizes for the marathon have now been ordered, 600 cakes initially have been confirmed, but the order could be updated if necessary. The Chairman suggested that it would be a good idea to have samples of the cakes to ensure the prizes were of a good quality.

The numbers for the race presently stand at 15 entries, which is expected at this stage of the planning.

Dennis has sent the letters to all the sponsors and Les will keep everyone updated on further progress of the event.

Dennis requested that members take some entry forms with them to other races and make an effort to give them out in order to promote the race and get better numbers than last year.

It was felt that although the numbers of entries needed to improve there should be a limit on overall numbers to ensure the safety of the runners.

Club/Membership Secretary – Dennis read a letter of thanks from Karen & Reg Bestwick regarding the clubs support for the Larwood 10k race.

Received E-mails –

-‘The Running Bug’ a listings website due to start in September has    invited Clowne Roadrunners to put our events on their site –

Dennis to contact them regarding putting listings on this site. adam@therunningbug.co.uk

-         ‘The Good Run Guide’ plan to introduce a club finder on their website and have offered the opportunity for Clowne road runners promote our club on their club finder free of charge. john.piears@goodrunguide.co.uk

Dennis will contact all committee members to find out if anyone has objections to this before he puts the clubs details on this site.

-         ‘Magic Hands Remedial Sport Massage’ offering their services, no interest in this e mail was shown.

Dennis is still waiting for the forms from UK Athletic (due 1st August) to arrive and will inform everyone when they do.

Dennis read out a letter of thanks from John Proffitt regarding his 65th birthday presentation.

UK Athletics new licence system. Dennis requested all members read the notes on the UK Athletics web site regarding their proposals to the system.

Dennis suggested Clowne committee members meet with Worksop Committee members to discuss views on the proposals, so when Dennis and Geoff attend the UK Athletics meeting in Manchester they can put both clubs views forward.

Club Captain – Dave reported that the training nights are still being very well attended. Andy Ward is not available to train during the summer holidays, but Karen Bestwick is present every week and it was felt this was especially useful for the lady runners.

The input from both Andy and Karen is well appreciated.

Club Treasurer – Lewis was not present and there were no issues regarding finance this month.

Social Secretary – There was no social news, but John commented on the fact that in the Handicap race, runners were unsure which team they were in and suggested that next year a list of teams could be displayed once the draw has been made.

President – Terry Richardson was not present.

Grand Prix – Steve Shipp was not present and there was no Grand Prix news.

Worksop Membership – no issues.

AOB – The Chairman reported that three people had sent off for their coaching certificates, but others were interested in training to become coaches.

The Chairman also mentioned the suggestion for a ‘most improved award’ at the prize giving evening in January and the committee meeting would be called in September.

Regarding the Grand Prix, the chairman mentioned that the changes to the off road races, proposed by John in February would be discussed, and the general grand prix races to be discussed in November/December this year to make people aware of the races available.

The review of the situation with UKA and ARC and the clubs track suit badges would be discussed at a future meeting.

The meeting closed at 8.10pm.
