Clowne Road Runners Minutes from the meeting on
December 8th 2006

The minutes from
November’s Club meeting were approved as a true record
22nd Dec Grand Prix races

Matters arising:
Remembrance Sunday
The Chairman thanked
Dave Johnson for arranging and in particular Avis and Paul Blunt for attending
the Remembrance Sunday Service in Clowne and laying a poppy wreath on behalf of
the Club.
Half Marathon and Fun Run
The Chairman thanked
all members and friends for their help with both the Half Marathon and the Fun
Run and in particular Dave Wright, Steve Shipp and Les Bantam
Les spoke as Race
Director and on behalf of himself and Assistant Race Director Dave Wright
thanked club for all the support. Les made a special mention of how the
clearing up work after the event had been made easier in last 2/3 yrs. He
thanked all who had contributed to this.
Overall the event has
received very positive feedback in every case apart from 1 person who didn’t
like drawstring bag!
Two runners from
Banbury said how impressed they were with the event and asked Les if their Race
Director could contact us to gain some tips for their local event. Dave Wright
already has already been contacted and has agreed to offer the benefit of his
experience to them.
The water stations had
worked very well however Terry Richardson suggested that water at Whitwell
should be in the bus shelter area next year.
The two policemen were
very impressed particularly at Creswell and the Rotherham Road cross roads – the
free sausage sandwiches given to them also went down well! They have also
suggested that the report back to the Chief Constable will be positive.
It was noted that Worksop
have to pay £thousands and we get police for free thanks particularly to Terry
and Les for establishing strong relationships
The Chairman suggested
that the Van Dykes corner needs more cones next year as it is becoming
increasingly dangerous.
Les has sent out thank
you letters and cheques in post to all parties including Revcom.
He also mentioned that
we had 4 officials present from BARR. There has been no official feedback about
the event yet however on the day all comments were very good.
Avis checked what
would happen with late runners – Les said anyone starting after the gun was not
included in the race.
Les was aware of four
runners who had set off late due to confusion with the start time. It appears
that Runners World had published a start time for the race of 10.30 on their
website.
Terry Richardson asked
if Les had information regarding lack of hot water in the changing rooms. Les
said that he hadn’t had any feedback yet.
FUN RUN
There were 62 entries and
54 finishers.
3 marshals who were
expected did not show on the day which caused some problems however thanks were
extended to Lorraine Hornshaw for helping with some additional marshalling at
short notice.
Steve Shipp said that
the 1st 2 runners went the wrong way through school.
Paul Blunt followed up
at the rear of the event to ensure that all got home safely.
Overall Steve has had
a very positive response from runners and no complaints about mud this year!
Terry R said one Fun
Run entrant had entered off the half marathon form and claimed that there was no
start time on the form.
Les said that
information was sent with all postal responses and also available on the web
site.
Results from the Fun
Run are also available on the website for the 1st time.
LONDON MARATHON PLACES
No information was
available to say whether we have had any places allocated.
Dennis Learad was away.
Geoff will speak to him before the next meeting and ask him to report back in
January. Les also offered to will speak to Roland Gibbard if required.
GJ read out previous
minutes from 04 regarding previous London Marathon entry activity.
TR suggested the that
committee members have 1st claim to any tickets followed by anybody
who has done good work for the Club followed by any member who had a rejection
slip + £2 can go into a hat.
GJ will confirm the procedure
at the next meeting.
SECRETARY
In the absence of DL TR
said that there was very little feedback available. The distinct lack of information
was proving frustrating.
DL had info from Leonard
Cheshire Foundation – worthy charity DL wants to donate £50 from club –
decision deferred until January
CLUB CAPTAIN
Cross country dates
were agreed as 21st January, Retford, 4th February
Killamarsh, 18th February Handsworth, 4th March Clowne.
There were some rule
changes DJ to confirm all specifics at January meeting.
TR confirmed he booked
the cricket club
The relay night not
well supported over the last two months. It was agreed that we defer to the AGM
whether or not to continue
December Relay night
will definitely not run.
TREASURER
Lewis said we raised
£4300 from half marathon and now had £7563 in the bank
Made £450 out of the
agreed maximum of £700 in donations to charity. Lewis said that there was still
money available for worthy causes in this financial year.
SOCIAL SECRETARY
JP profit was not
present but has left tickets for anyone interested in the Presentation Evening.
GRAND PRIX
Steve Shipp said that
he wanted voting forms for next year’s events back by 22nd December.
There had been no Grand
Prix events in the last month.
AOB
GJ also stated that he
had had 23 votes across 8 members back for person of the year.
TR wants annual
membership fees after AGM.
He also asked for
volunteers to register as officials as this will be required to obtain grading
and the multi million pound indemnities for next year’s half marathon.
Les also passed around
an individual Christmas cake and asked if the club would wish to give one away
to half marathon runners next year. The wholesale price would likely to be
around a pound for a bulk purchase. Members agreed to give Les the go ahead to
pursue.
