Ranby 10k
date agreed as 17th June
Brian McMahan
died recently – Terry said he had been a member of the club since it
started all but last year and described him as a true member as he had done the Snowdon Marathon!
Terry also
asked the Club for a donation to
A £50
donation was agreed unanimously.
The
Chairman mentioned that Stuart Platts was getting married and passed around a
card for members to sign. It was mentioned that the Club usually bought a
wedding present for members. A cheque for £50 was agreed.
Elmton Chase
- Terry Richardson agreed to contact
Les Bantam
had sorted the water, cups and winner’s vouchers.
Terry
Richardson had also arranged for the Stack Yard to be used for car parking
space.
The pub had
been had been contacted and details arranged with the owners – Dennis
asked if anyone could put up a poster in the pub and around Clowne and
Cresswell – Terry agreed to see to this too.
The Handicap
Race was confirmed as 6th June at 7pm for 7.30pm start. Andrew
Porter is compiling handicaps and teams.
John Profit
asked members for an indication of numbers likely to attend for catering
purposes.
No
information was available about the summer x/c other than it was
Killamarsh’s turn to organise it this year. John Profit expected Jonathon
Ogle from Handsworth to provide information and would arrange for the website
to be updated when it was available.
The
Chairman asked members to consider appropriate dates for the annual
Presentation Evening. The 12th or 19th January were
suggested. The Community Centre was only free on the 19th January and
this date was confirmed.
Dennis had
received a letter from Karen Bestwick asking for a donation to The Heart
Foundation and Maurice Jones asked for donation to Barlborough Church Roof Fund.
Members agreed £50 to each worthy cause.
Dennis
Learad mentioned that the Larwood 10K event was well supported by the club with
22 runners completing the course. He also said that the water for the Half
Marathon was already sponsored and agreed.
The
Chairman also thanked Dennis for papers regarding the coach licence and leadership
group that he had recently circulated to members.
Dennis said
that UK Athletics had been sending various information to him regarding
insurance and that the new membership cards were likely in September.
Terry
Richardson mentioned that the Fell Runners Association had agreed to stay with
UKA.
Club Membership
is increasing well – another 2 lady members had recently joined the Club
Steve Shipp
asked if we had any more membership car stickers – John Profit said that
he has 20 ish left which he will distribute.
David
Johnson asked about non members attending the training night and where do we
stand with regards to liability etc.
The Club agreed to continue to accept non members at the training night
however a committee member, typically the Club Captain should confirm to them
that they join us at their own risk.
David Johnson would explain joining costs etc. and that they are
uninsured until they join.
David
Johnson would liaise with Andy Ward and Karen Bestwick, ensuring that they were
clear that they were not expected by the Club to have sole responsibility for making
new starters aware that they were uninsured until joining the Club.
John Profit
stated that 13 club standards had been achieved so far this year and
subsequently the track suit badges were running low.
John asked
if the badges were still appropriate – a decision was made to re- order
for now with referral to the AGM to determine whether or not we should continue
to use them.
Karen
Bestwick had asked through John Profit
if she could use an old club cup for their new series. Members decided
that there was nothing appropriate available.
Geoff
Jackson also mentioned that there are invariably specific limitations to the
use of the cup when they are donated. Dennis agreed to draft a letter to Karen
and Reg Bestwick.
It was also
mentioned that Karen and Reg had organised a 3 counties race series which
includes 2 new races in Edwinstowe and Sherwood Pines. The series will also
include the Elmton Chase and Abbey Dash.
Steve Shipp
distributed recent race results and said that Grand Prix events had received
good support especially from some of the newer members. Dennis Learad had also
completed a full marathon at Windamere.
Steve also
mentioned that the Terry Shipp memorial Ranby 10k race was in 2 weeks time
on 17th June.
Maurice
Jones thanked the club for the donation for the
Terry
Richardson said that there were still some places left on the Snowden fell
race.
Geoff
Jackson thanked Ron Wild for putting the list of forthcoming race dates
together.
Andy Ward
had phoned Geoff Jackson and suggested that the Club introduced an award for
the most improved runner of the year.
Steve Shipp
said he could help with most improved performances via the Grand Prix results
if required.
Geoff
Jackson asked the membership to think about appropriate criteria for ‘most
improved’ for discussion at the next committee meeting.
Andy had
also mentioned the excellent recent coaching support from Karen Bestwick and
how well received and motivational it was and asked if we could arrange to have
training night pictures on web site.
John Profit
mentioned that the Spire 10 had no Derbyshire Championships this year; Dennis
agreed to investigate through his contacts
Terry
Richardson also asked for club support at the Much Wenlock
Olympian games 7mile on 15th July which was only £2 to enter
