MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF CLOWNE ROAD RUNNERS FRIDAY 4th MAY 2005

Apologies:

Andrew Porter

Dennis Learad

Andrea Jackson

Graham Shawcroft.

In Graham's absence the vice Chairman Geoff Jackson assumed the role of Chairman.

Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed as a true record with two exceptions. The Clowne Half Marathon incorporated the County championships not 'Country championships' and the handicap race will be in July not June.

Matters arising

Web site – Les had been in touch with Peter Goucher who is happy to continue to maintain the site. Peter requested that information should be 'drip fed' into him.

Most of the conflicting information has now been removed. It was thought that the best way forward was to ask Dave and Peter to get together at a later date to resolve any issues.

Clowne Half Marathon – it was reported that the bobble hats could be embroidered with 'Clowne Half Marathon' at a cost of £1.25. Greg Goddard suggested stencilling the hats, he would undertake a trial and if successful he would do the stencilling for just the cost of the materials. John Proffitt was asked to pass a hat onto Greg to allow him to try out the stencilling. A firm decision to be made at the next meeting. The Chairman thanked Greg and Sandy for their efforts so far.

Les Banton reported that Buckingham Insurance would again be the main sponsors for the half marathon. Steetley Dolomite, formally 'Lafarge' would not be providing any sponsorship this year however Les was in negotiations with a mystery sponsor who might provide sponsorship to the tune of £500.

Elmton Chase (Tsunami run) – The chairman had researched the date of the 2003 race, reporting that it was held on the 24th June. It was therefore proposed that this year the race should be held on Wed 22nd June 2005 starting at 19:30.

Terry Richardson would be sorting at the organisation for the race; Les Banton would do the posters.

Les also suggested obtaining a permit for the race in order to cover both himself and the club. In accordance with new regulations obtaining a permit would add an additional £2 onto the entry fee for non-affiliated members. It was proposed that a 'flat rate' £4 per entrant be charged, this would then cover the proposed charity donation and the non affiliation charge. The club debated the fact that the Tsunami appeal had officially been wound up and it was thought that it might be better to donate to a local charity. The local charity would be debated at a later meeting.

Handicap Race – Andrew Porter was confirmed as organising the 'handicap'. John Proffitt confirmed that Linda would do the Pie and Pies and some assistance on the night would be appreciated.

Training Night – John Proffitt reported that attendance had improved since the last meeting; Andy Ward confirmed that several dates were in the pipeline for July when he and Christine would be taking official sessions, however mid-week races prevented official sessions every week.

Grand Prix – Steve apologised for his absence at the last meeting. Steve handed out the latest Grand Prix standings and outlined future races. Steve informed the club that the Ranby 10k will be renamed as the 'Terry Shipp Memorial' Ranby 10k.

Steve also reminded the meeting that they must inform him of any category 4 races undertaken if they want him to incorporate the result into the Grand Prix.

It was reported that the Swaledale Marathon was now full.

Surprise 70th Birthday – Terry Richardson thanked all those who contributed to the event and the effort that had been put in by the organisers. They had certainly done a good job in keeping it a secret from him.

Club Captain – Dave Johnson reiterated that the numbers at training night were picking up and efforts should continue to be made to encourage more new members.

Ladies Captain – Michelle said that she would be resurrecting the ladies training night, probably on a Tuesday this time. Michelle's ideas on encouraging more lady members included the use of business cards or flyers to advertise the club or even place an advert in the local paper. After further debate Michelle said she would send out letters to the current lady members giving details of the training night. John Proffitt would mention it to the representative of the local paper.

Steve Shipp said he would send out flyer details with his next race.

Brain Banton would try and get Becky Measures at Peak 107 to give it a plug.

The women's Race for life event would be a good venue to put out flyers.

A.O.B.

An enquiry was made as to when the Summer X-country event would be – it was known to be at Retford and Steve Shipp would make enquiries.

Terry Richardson had now updated all membership details with the North of England association.

Greg Goddard and Ron Wild will be running most Sundays mornings and invited people to join them if they wished. Anyone interested should meet at 09:15 at the crossroads of Gapsick Lane and Hollins Lane Clowne, the run to last about an hour.

Congratulations to Clowne ladies for coming 3rd and the Ranby 10 event.

Meeting closed 20:27
