Minutes of the Previous Meeting 7th April

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed as a true record.

Matters arising

Terry reported that Pat Muller was now not so well and was still receiving treatment.

Dennis had received an email to say that the meeting room at the community centre was unavailable on the 1st of December and because of the clash our meeting will be moved to the second Friday of the month, the 8th December 2006.

Club Relay Event – The Chairman asked Paul Stadler to contact Andy to see if he still wanted to progress the idea.

Elmton Chase, Wednesday 21st June 19:30 – Dennis had printed flyers for the event and they were distributed at the meeting.

Handicap Race, Friday 7th July 19:00 Andrew Porter had agreed to organise the team event that will be incorporated within the handicap race. Teams will be drawn from a hat prior to the race. Participants should be at the community centre for 19:00 ready for a 19:30 start.

Summer X-country – a change of date has been put forward due to the original date clashing with other events for the Retford club. It is now proposed to be organised for Wednesday 26th July @ 19:30. The other teams have not yet been contacted.

Clowne Half Marathon (CHM) – Les mentioned that there was a Sports Action meeting next week which he would be attending. No other issues.

Grand Prix – Steve Shipp distributed the Ranby10 results and the overall standings. Steve thanked all those who ran at Ranby or assisted as marshals. Steve also distributed entry forms for the Ranby 10k, the Terry Shipp memorial race.

Club Trips

Isle of Isla – a 25 seater bus had been arranged, there was no proposed increase in price for the trip.

Club Secretary – Dennis had received a letter from Andrea Walker, several of the ‘Barlborough Babes’ are taking part in the Great North Run and raising funds. A donation from the club in aid of the charities they are supporting was proposed and accepted.

Dennis had also received a letter stating that there would be a race to be held in Sheffield in aid of the British Heart foundation.

There was also a letter from the North of England Athletic Association regarding the annual subscriptions that were due by the 1st May. Dennis stated that the amount to be paid was dependent upon the number of members that the club has.

Currently some member had not paid their fees and there was a debate on what we could do about that, and the unfairness of those of who do not pay in a timely fashion. Proposals included the future use of direct debits or standing order forms.

Initially a polite letter should be drafted and sent to all those who had not paid.

Terry and Dennis would need to get together to reconcile on the number of members who had paid their subscriptions and were members of the club, an initial payment was to be made to the North of England followed by a further sum when the final membership tally could be obtained.

Club Captain Dave reported that training was still reasonable well supported with a new member recently turning up. There was also a 14 year old boy who has started coming to training nights. This raised a debate on whether we could allow ‘minors’ to come to training sessions because of the legality of it in terms of insurance and the need for a CRB check to be carried out. The Chairman thought that there should be something in the constitution to cover the situation. Les suggested that the Sports Action people were well versed in these issues and could come to talk to the club about the issues surrounding minors. In the mean time the club Captain should explain the situation to the boy’s mother.

Addendum: - CRB checks can be organised through the Sports Action Group.

Treasures report – no issues.

Social / Publicity – no issues

President – no issues

AOB

Terry Richardson made the meeting aware of a dwarf boy called Jack Shepherd who is 9 years old and into athletics. Terry said he would be asking Jack’s parent to write to the club to support him in his pursuit

Les Banton reported that David Wright’s wife had been to hospital and there was a need to operate but there was a good prognosis and she was quite upbeat. Les said that at some point in the future he would organise a ‘get well’ gift from the club.

A reminder that any results for the local press need to be with John Proffitt.
