Apologies:

Graham Shawcroft, Graham Sheen, Dave Keeling, Michelle Manion, Andrea Jackson, and Andrew Porter.

Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed as a true record.

Matters arising

Handicap TrophyThe previous winners of the handicap race had now all been identified with one exception which was thought to be Graham Shawcroft.

Note: Andrew Porter has booked the 1st July for next years handicap race.

Clowne Half Marathon – on-going issues include: car parking and the building on the field next to the Community Centre.

Car Parking - Les was trying to contact someone at Biffa so that the Biffa site and Penny hydraulics could both be used as a convenient location. There are a number of parking spaces at Linear Park, although not an ideal location. The new college was also mentioned as a possibility. The key for the Co-op car park was still an issue, a suggestion that the Nottingham Co-op could be the right people to contact.  The Clowne Cricket club and School fields were also mentioned although the school had been ruled out in previous years.

Building work / Fun Run - Dave Wright and Les had recently held a site meeting, there were going to be difficulties with the fun run because of the building work. Michelle had been contacted and it was hoped that she could decide what route she would prefer. Michelle to contact Les to progress the issue.

The Club Captain mentioned the issue raised after last years fun run, namely the muddy conditions and the hill associated with the current fun run; asking if there were other alternatives such as the Linear trail or the school fields.

Terry Richardson mentioned attending a Sports action group meeting, £6000 was available to groups provided that youngsters were involved; this may benefit the club indirectly if new changing facilities were built on the field.

Other information -133 runners had entered to-date, up on the corresponding period last year (by about 5 days). The Worksop Half marathon acceptance letters, which include a Clowne entry form, had not been sent out yet, this should hopefully increase interest.

Other actions were progressing OK. Les had spoken to Trevor regarding collecting the trophies; Avis was thought to have taken names and addresses of last year’s trophy winners and some trophies had already been returned, Trevor to check on the situation.

Les suggested a ‘Your Club Needs You’ letter to go out to the membership to drum up support and help on the day. Dennis Learad to progress.

Greg suggested a back up sweeper bus driver; Les thought Brian Banton could be the best option.

Dennis had contacted ‘Highland Spring’ regarding a deal on bottled water and ‘branding opportunities’. Further communication was required on this issue with Highland Spring, although it was not known if it would be in time for this year or not.

Les also mentioned discussing with Karl Read funds of £300 for toilet facilities. The Keep on Running vouchers had been printed and one was passed around the meeting for comment.

The Captain said that Mike Bowerman had contacted the club to request if they could come with the Nike shoe presentation, the membership thought that this would cut across Mike Theobald from ‘Keep on Running’ who mainly supports Asics, who had donated several goodies to the club. Also because of the lack of space around the start / finish area it might not be a good time and the club should politely refuse them for this year, Dave to reply accordingly.

Training night – It was reported that Andy Ward had expressed an interest to continue his structured training nights now that the midweek race season had come to an end. There is currently a handful of people attending the Thursday sessions and Andy would like to boost this figure by a few more if possible. His first session will be Thursday 20th October. Reference to it should be made on the Web site.

Now that Karen Bestwick has her coaching level 2 and usually attends the sessions the regularity of Andy’s visits with probably increase. Reg Bestwick had also suggested that the club could benefit by having a published structured programme put on the web site.

Grand Prix – Steve handed out the latest ‘on-road’ results and overall positions.

The next Grand Prix events in October are; Clumber 10k this coming Sunday and the Worksop HM on Sunday October 30th.

Secretary’s spot – a few race forms were distributed as usual, membership database still ongoing and making steady progress.

John Harrison mentioned an issue that Worksop are currently facing with a bill for in the region of £1750-£2000 for the Police to attend and give assistance on risk assessment. Fortunately this was not currently the case for Clowne.

Terry Richardson to contact the Chairman regarding the proposal for the Nott’s summer league banning or restricting second claim runners.

Presentation night - tickets available now from John Proffitt.

Scotland Trip – The Chairman thanked Terry Richardson for organising the Bute trip there was unanimous support for this, agreeing that it was an excellent event.

Terry said that next year he was considering the Isle of Isla – approximately £150 per person if the interest was there, if not then he will look for something else. Interest from about 35 people would be required.

A.O.B.

Maurice Jones 80th Birthday a card was passed around. The acting Chairman thought that a structure should be prepared for such occasions and should be discussed at the AGM.

It was decided that a news letter should be put together to incorporate information on the various activates concerning the club, The Captain and Secretary to progress.

Best wishes were expressed from the club to Dave Wright and his wife who had just undergone an operation.

The meeting scheduled for the 2nd Dec will be held in the lounge bar due to the committee room not being available.

Date of next meeting Friday 4th November 2005.                Meeting closed @ 20:41
