MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF CLOWNE ROAD RUNNERS FRIDAY 2nd September 2005
Apologies:
Trevor Platt, Dave Wright, Paul &Avis Blunt, Loraine Hornshaw, Andrea Jackson, Dave Keeling.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed as a true record although it was pointed out that records only existed as far back as the year 2000 for the winners of the ‘Handicap race’ although it may be possible to go back further than that from memory.
Handicap Trophy – Terry pointed
out that the ‘new’ Handicap trophy was currently being refurbished.
Clowne Half Marathon – Les believed Eric was currently on holiday but had been busy undertaking some of requirements for the race. Les has spoken to Karl Reed regarding the toilets and he said that “funds should be available”.
The ongoing work at the Community Centre field should not affect access towards the changing room facilities although the fun run might need to be diverted.
Mike Theobald from ‘Keep on Running’ has agreed to provide a £5 voucher for every competitor, (£5 off goods over £30).
Asics will also provide a number of goodies, including tape, mile markers and running shoes for the first male & female finishers.
Les had received a letter back from Wilkinson’s, saying no sponsorship available this year, but try again next year.
Steel City Striders have informed us that they intend to run an article on their web site featuring the Clowne Half Marathon.
Nestle had also been contacted but no sponsorship is available this year.
Car Parking – The Co-op could be a suitable venue and will be pursued, however the whereabouts of key to the co-op’s car park is not currently known.
Terry Richardson asked about who will be organising the fun run, Les replied saying that to his knowledge it would still be Michelle and Kirsty.
Greg asked if he was required to drive the ‘sweeper bus’ again. Terry said that the rules for driving the bus had changed and some additional training was required, Greg would need to contact Chris from ‘Clowne Community Transport’ to sort out the requirements.
Training night – The Captain reported training night still ticking over.
A reminder was given that Sunday Runs were still being undertaken at approximately 09:20 from the corner of Gapsick Lane / Creswell Rd when they did not clash with main local races.
Andy Ward had contacted Terry Richardson to say he had not
been able to get to the meetings on a Friday but he was still keen on
continuing the training.
Grand Prix – Steve handed out the final ‘off-road ‘results having now obtained the position from the Hope Wakes race.
Steve then distributed the ‘on road’ results.
The next Grand Prix events in September were the Spire 10 and the Retford Half.
The secretary added that
he had sent the club entries for the Flora London Marathon.
Presentation night - a point was raised regarding the number of people who failed to attend the presentation night and who had previously indicated that they would be attending, leading to a over provision of food and non-payment in some cases. The Chairman asked for comments to improve the situation. John Harrison said that a nominal cost per person was probably a good solution. The membership seemed in general agreement, and a nominal cost of a £1 was suggested.
Les suggested that if people made there spouses etc associate members this would offset the cost to the club long term.
It was proposed that the charge would be £2 for members and £3 for non-members and this would also allow them free entry into the stand-up bingo. The proposal was seconded and then accepted.
Scotland Trip – The Chairman thanked Terry Richardson for organising the Bute trip there was unanimous support for this, agreeing that it was an excellent event.
Terry said that next year he was considering the Isle of Isla – approximately £150 per person if the interest was there, if not then he will look for something else. Interest from about 35 people would be required.
Terry commented that the Gritstone Edge is no longer in existence and a replacement race will be required for the ‘Overall Trophy’ over 60’s section. He was reminded that this was an AGM issue.
John Proffitt mentioned that on Sept 18th there was the Bawtry Forest 7 mile trail run, starting at 10:30.
Date of next meeting 7th October 2005. Meeting closed @ 20:26.
