Minutes of the Previous Meeting 4th July

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed as a true record.

Matters arising

Barlborough Festival – Many thanks to the Clowne colleagues who supported the event. The event overall was poorly attended and clashed with another local event. Maurice Jones had issues with the organisation and would be attending the next Barlborough parish council meeting to air his thoughts.

Highland spring had agreed to sponsor the water stations at the CHM, thanks to Dennis for his efforts in securing the deal.

Derbyshire Country Athletic Association had now written back to the club saying that our bid for funding had been unsuccessful. The letter offered feedback on how the bid could have been improved, although it was thought that the feedback was not constructive or relevant.

Death of Pat Muller – The Chairman said that he held details regarding arrangements for donations should any individual wish to contribute to the chosen organisations. The Chairman asked if the club would like to contribute, it was subsequently proposed and agreed that the club should donate £100 to the Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield.

Clowne Half Marathon (CHM) – Les stated that various letters were going out. There had been an issue over the attendance of a doctor for the event; however a doctor from the new practise adjacent to the community centre had agreed to step in.

About 20 entries had been received so far. Entry forms were available for individuals to give out at local races.

Steve Shipp would be talking to Les after the meeting to finalise the details of the race mementoes.

Grand Prix – Steve reiterated the off-road Grand Prix situation i.e. that the Grand Prix will now consists of 6 races from 9. The only person it affected was Ron Wild!

Steve had now managed to obtain a copy of the Castleton fell race results. All off-road races were now complete. The final off-road standing, on-road and overall standings were distributed.

A further debate ensued about the future of the Grand Prix races the Chairman said he would ensure that the November meeting would have an agenda item to discuss future Grand Prix races prior to voting for the final events.

Club Relay Event – Andy Ward outlined his thoughts, the background and the difficulties involved in staging a club relay event. The thinking was that an ongoing relay event could be incorporated into the Thursday nights training event following the monthly meeting. The first event would this coming week Thursday 7th Sept. Dennis would try to get the information on the web immediately.

Bolsover Award – Presentation night was the 22nd September at Kissingate Centre Shirebrook @ 07:30pm.

Club Secretary – English Athletics had written to the club to inform us that they have appointed a new coach, namely Alan Richardson. Dennis had responded to English Athletic saying Andy Ward was our club coach; subsequently Alan Richardson had been in touch with Andy.

Club Captain – Dave mentioned that he now had a new allie in approaching and encouraging new members. Dave felt it more appropriate in some cases if a female member of the club could contact potential female members. Andrea Jackson said that she would be happy to fill this role when called upon by Dave. .

It was noted that some of the Barlborough Babes were training from the Clowne venue on a Thursday night just prior to the main club training session. The club thought it would be a good idea if we could get them along with the main group, Dennis said he would drop them an email.

Treasures report – Lewis not present.
