CMVC - NEWSChoir's 70th Anniversary YearNews from the 2009/2010 season will appear here shortly.------- NEWS ARCHIVE -------Cornwall Visit 8th-10th May 2009The choir completed their fifth visit to St.Ives where they performed two concerts during the weekend: a joint concert with the Hayle Praize Male Choir on Saturday 9th May in Hayle; and then a joint concert with the Goddrevy Singers on Sunday 10th May in Leedstown. The choir once again met up with friends from both singing groups, and appreciated the fine hospitality of their hosts.Deaths of past membersThe choir attended the funeral service for Frank Dummett at his home on Thursday 12th February and sang "Gwahoddiad". Afterwards they attended the wake at The Cause in Chippenham.The following day the choir attended the funeral service for Tom Voss at St Aldhelm’s Church, Pickwick Road, Corsham. The choir sang two pieces: "Cwm Rhondda"; and "Gwahoddiad". Afterwards, choir members attended the wake at the Corsham Club. 21st November 2008 - Social EveningThe choir held a social evening for members and partners at the Sports Club in Chippenham. The main organised activity of the evening was a challenge skittles match between four teams selected from all attendees. The winning team on the night was the "Yellow Team" - captained by John Swift. The prize awarded for the highest ladies score went to Judy Dix with a total of 29. Three men tied for the the prize for the highest mens score, but surprisingly the Chairman decided to award the prize to Lynda Clifford - with the next highest score of 26 - when it was realised that her total was greater than any of those from the men! A splendid buffet followed, and the evening was rounded off with some songs from the choir's repertoire.Member of the Month launched in November 2008This new feature has been added to the website - click on the 'Member of the Month' menu link to view.13th July 2008 - AGMThe choir's Annual General Meeting was held at the United Reform Church, St Mary Street, Chippenham on 14th July 2008 with the majority of members attending the meeting. The choir has had another enjoyable and successful year giving twenty-one concerts which helped raise more than six thousand pounds for local churches and other organisations.The officers elected for the coming year are: President Mrs Sandie Webb; Conductor Mr Bob Jones; Accompanist Mrs Sarah Gale; Chairman Elfryn Humphreys; Secretary Phil Dyke; Treasurer Roger Mackney; Librarian Basil Raddy; and other committee members Ron Dolman and Nick Greene - with John D Webb appointed as Concert Manager. The choir concert diary is again being filled for the new season with eleven concerts before Christmas, starting with a concert at Bradenstoke Church on 26 September. This year the annual Christmas Crackers concert in the Neeld Hall will be on Thursday 18th December. |
