This is the 'unofficial' site about Coate Water Country Park! This site was created as a means to share information, memories and thoughts about one of the best places to be in Swindon.

Lanterns on the Lake: In recent years, probably the most popular annual event at Coate is 'Lanterns on the Lake'. This is a really fantastic event commemorating 'World Peace Day' where, throughout the day, children make brightly coloured sail boats carrying a single candle.

Over the years, Coate Water has hosted a wide variety of public and private events providing much enjoyment and pleasure for many members of the local community, young and old alike.

At dusk, the candles are lit and the simple 'lanterns' are released to float across the lake. Each candle is supposed to represent a lost soul from Hiroshima on that fateful day.

Boats: Although there are no longer any small boats available for hire on the lake, many clubs and societies still regularly use the lake for practice, classes and racing. Two of the most popular water events are the Bradford on Avon annual Regatta (Sept) and Dragon Boat Racing (June) in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

This year's dragon boat racing consisted of 16 teams from local businesses battling out in the highly competitive races over the 250m course. Racers were treated to an all day hot meat roast and BBQ provided by the outside catering team (Steakout) from the cafe at Coate, record funds were raised for the British Heart Foundation and great fun was had by all!

Others have chosen the park and the 1.75m circuit of the lake to conduct charity walks or runs providing an excellent venue for individuals or families alike.
