THE RESTORATION OF

No 231 originally entered preservation in 1980 straight out of service with Cumberland Motor Services. It attended rallies in the early 1980's but then suffered due to a long period of outdoor storage so that when the the Cumbria Omnibus Group acquired it in 1996 it was in need of major restoration.

This was the sight that greeted us the first time we went to look at No231, hidden behind caravans with a decrepit Land Rover for company. But whilst a lot of work was going to be needed AAO 34B was definitely a viable project and was duly purchased.

Good Friday 1996 therefore saw No 231 moved to its new home near Ravenglass in Cumbria
