No401

(pic: Brian Pritchard)

Delivered to Cumberland Motor Services in 1975 this was the first VR to enter service with them. It remained in service until 1990 when it passed to Eagre coaches in Lincolnshire. It served them for 10 years before passing to the Wensleydale railway where it was converted to a partial open topper. Several years out of use followed before being acquired for preservation and passing to this Group in May 2006.

Efforts are currently focused on reflooring  401 and getting it  through its MOT after which it will be repainted into NBC red.

The eventual aim is to reinstate the upper saloon roof thus returning 401 to its original condition .
