Lodge Family Day to
Blair Drummond Safari Park
On August 26th, the Lodge had its annual family day out and this time we were off to Blair Drummond Safari Park. As usual the majority of the organising for this event was Bro Brian Gibson and his wife Esther. After a not insignificant number of 'Are we there yets?' (most of which emanated from Lorna Innes), we finally arrived at Blair Drummond and right away the bus made it way around the enclosures to let the animals see the monkeys from Lodge 320. Soon enough the bus was parked up and we quickly set about doing...... not very much really because we were not allowed into the barbeque area for about 3/4 of an hour. By which time the rain had come on, gone off, and I'd had a coffee bought for me by Bro Colin Boyd. (Obviously not wearing his deep pockets that day.) After a quick visit to the sea lion show and receiving 3 phone calls and 2 texts, yours truly made his merry way to the barbeque area to get things organised and the food on the go. As is becoming the norm for this event, the master chef (me) was once again ably hindered in his duties by Bro Colin Boyd. (OK, credit where its due, he did get the second barbeque going after it looked like a failure. It seems hot air does have its uses.) We always manage to cook more food than is actually eaten despite the best efforts of the cooks to drum up business. Some of us managed to visit the bird of prey display where we witnessed a fantastic show involving a kestrel and a white tailed sea eagle. Well done to the handlers for an entertaining and educational experience.
Once more, thanks go to all of the contributors of food, drink etc and especially to all who were involved in organising another great day out.
