The May Fair
See the children Maypole dancing, At the May Day village fair, Whilst proud parents with their camera's, Tear in eye are standing there.
Twisting coloured ribbons round, In fancy patterns on a pole, Dancing to some lively music, Like a country farandole.
Lots of stalls with cakes and pastries, Skittles, plants, tombola to, Pony riding for the children, All should make a bob or two.
Brass band playing in the corner, Smart red tunics they do wear, All the well - known tunes they're playing, For the crowd that's gathered there.
Thelma Tingle selling ice creams, By the cornet full you try, David eyes prospective custom, From the old folk passing by,
Walter Gosling with his models, In his usual corner spot, Melodic organ music playing, Sips his tea laced with a tot.
Ladies on the Bouncy Castle, Giggling and acting silly, Showing all their next days washing, Mary, Gladys, Bess & Lilly.
Village folk turn out in hundreds, Meeting friends they chat a while, When the May Day Fair is over, Everyone leaves with a smile.
