With light refreshments to follow

The group was created in 1980's when the Doctors & Staff at the Medical Centre had identified the problems experienced by patients without access to transport to attend appointments. Our initial aim was to provide a transport service, not only to the Surgery, but also to Hospitals in Lincoln, Newark, Mansfield & Nottingham. This service was soon broadened to help the elderly and disabled to Opticians, Dentists, Chiropodists, Day Care Centres, shopping & social family visits.

Spring Bulb Planting

Since autumn 1994 over 25,000 Daffodil, Crocus and Snowdrop bulbs have been planted around the village. We are grateful to those who give money for this specific project and make Collingham so colourful each spring.

Funding

We receive a Grant from Nottinghamshire County Council towards our transport costs and also receive Donations, Bequests for which we are extremely grateful. Other funding comes from our Monthly Meeting Raffles.

Next Of Kin Cards

Transport

Over 1.150 Next of Kin Cards issued since 2000. Cards are available at the Surgery & Pharmacy on which personal details family details & important Medical information is recorded. This is to be carried at all times in the event of an Emergency.

We have a team of about 16 drivers who between them drove 25,475 miles in the year ending March 2005. From Jan 2004- March 2005, we have had 280 passengers register with us, and each weekday we undertook between 8 and 20 trips.

Unwanted Spectacles

Transplant Service

Since 1998 we have collected and sent off to Vision Aid Overseas 2,035 pairs of glasses.  Please bring any unwanted spectacles to the Collecting Point at the Pharmacy, as they are urgently needed in the Third World. In the last year we collected 518 pairs.

Both the Medical Centre and Pharmacy have Donor Cards and other information promoting Cornea, Kidney and Bone Marrow transplants.

Medical Centre Equipment

House Numbers

Since the Group was formed we have been able to buy a considerably amount of equipment for use by the Doctors, Nurses & Midwives. During the year 2004/5 we purchased the loop system and play table for the surgery. We have provided aids for use in the home, furnished a room at the Newark Hospice and have made contributions to the Macmillan Nurses, St John Ambulance, Salvation Army and many other local and national worthy causes.

The Doctors and other Emergency Services brought to our attention the great difficulty they have, especially at night, in finding houses without numbers. Our campaign to ensure that ALL houses are clearly numbered continues. "A NUMBER PIN POINTS YOUR ADDRESS". This is a quote from our local Fire Officer Mr W Shaw. Thank you to those who have responded to this request. To those who still haven't got a number on their property, DO THIS NOW. Your life may depend on it.
