Downer School Magazine - Compotus

A number of editions of Compotus have generously been made available by Sheila Jennings, Paul Kennett and another ex-pupil.  Despite having been stored under less-than-ideal conditions, apart from significant rusting of a few staples, the volumes have withstood the years remarkably well.

Pages from the collection can be accessed directly from the catalogue below using the blue hyperlinks:

Note: There was no Compotus issued in 1965.

Adobe Reader's 'Find' (binoculars) facility is inoperative with these pages.

[Technicalities: page-pairs comprising text consume about 140KB (but pages with photos can take nearer to 700KB).  So, for convenient access, pages are stored in clutches of about ten (normally totalling less than a MB) which, using an uncongested dial-up connection, can be downloaded in three or four minutes.

To achieve an apparent 'grey-scale', photographs in Compotus have been printed using the traditional technique of employing a pattern of tiny black dots - but this can cause distracting artefacts when viewed on a PC screen.  So, to mitigate this, some of the more interesting photographs have been scanned (at 300ppi) as greyscale images, and then blurred to spread the dots.  Some of these photos are presented individually.]
