The Pattern of Life We met, we married, a long time ago, We worked long hours, when wages were low, No TV, no bath, no wireless, times were hard. No cold water taps and a walk down the yard. No holidays abroad, no posh carpet on the floor. We had coal on the fire and no locks on the door Our children arrived, no pills in those days We brought them up without any state aid, They were quite safe to play alone in the park, And the old folk could go for a walk in the dark. No Valium, no drugs, no L.S.D. We cured our ills, with a nice cup of tea. But if you were sick, you were treated at once, Not, fill in a form, and come back in 6 months No vandals, no muggings or robbings, There was nothing to rob. And we were quite rich .... on a couple of bob. People were happy, back in those days Kinder and caring, in so many ways. Milkman, and paper boys would whistle and sing A night at the pictures.... was our biggest fling We all got our share of trouble and strife And we just had to face the pattern of life But now I'm alone, and look back through the years I don't think of bad times, the trouble and tears I remember the blessings, I remember our love That we could share them together And thank God above |
Hope you like it. Gill's Mum gave it to us. Gill and I haven't quite got to that stage yet I hope!!! But I feel this poem could appeal to the more senior citizen.
We do listen to Terry Wogan Radio 2 (Is that sad?) and consider ourselves apprentice "TOGS" (Tels Old Geezers/Girls). Isn't he great on the Eurovision Song Contest? He's even better with the subtitles on. We sometimes chat on the TOGs website (see our Links) What a sad bunch they are! and NO I won't tell you our nickname! although If you are observant you may see and recognise us.
The Togs have a lot of fun and do lots of fundraising for Children in Need
