August 1985 - My Solo Walk from Brecon Beacons to Snowdon and the Fourteen Peaks
I had previously done several expeditions with members of the Avon Mountaineering Club in Scotland and elsewhere and had done some solo walking in the Highlands, but I had not done anything with a particular aim before. I felt that Lands End to John O'Groats was probably too ambitious as I only had a fortnights holiday. I looked at Offas Dyke and the Long Distance Coastal paths but felt that they would be too well trodden and maybe a little tame. I still fancied Wales and moved my sights West of Offas Dyke and into the more mountainous areas and decided that a walk from the highest point of South Wales, Pen Y Fan in the Brecons, to the highest point of North Wales, Snowdon, would fit the bill.
Looking at the map I decided it should take about eight to ten days to complete with a couple of days spare. I thought I might be able to do the Fourteen Peaks as well. The Fourteen Peaks is a walk over all the peaks over 3000 feet and is usually done in one day. I thought that I should be fit enough by the time I reached North Wales.
I took many photos on the trip but as they were slides I haven't been able to get them into my pc as yet so watch this space.
