The
original G4 had a 'beam' rear axle (common on production vehicles of the day)
but the 'R' version had independent rear suspension, which gave much more
control over rear wheel behaviour and made for an excellent race car. |

DKW 2-stroke |
Sports racer |
The G4 is a light car; therefore a small lightweight engine can
be used. The equivalency formula for a two-stroke engine made it a favourable
option for a race car powerplant under some national racing regulations, one
example being in West Germany, where highly modified DKW engine was used. |

Updated G4 |
With interest and demand remaining for the G4 design, this
updated version appeared to match the new road-going regulations of the
'80's. Although complete cars could be purchased, cars were also available as
body/chassis kits. |

Modern G4 |
When the Walklett brothers sold Ginetta Cars Ltd., at the start
of the '90's, the new company retained the rights of all Ginetta models, with
the exception of the G4 and the G12. Japanese businessman, Thomas Maeda,
purchased the manufacturing rights of these models. This was a sensible
purchase, since these classic Ginettas were very popular in Japan and a
strong market existed there at the time. In order to produce the cars, the
Walkletts established a new company DARE (Design and Race Engineering), but
DARE were not allowed to sell cars they made under licence, so all cars were
sold by a (Maeda) appointed agent (usually Brooke Kensington). DARE G4's are
still being made to special order. |
