Overview
The Jaguar was the last console made by Atari. Tt was released in Autumn 1993, and competed against the 3DO and Sega 32X. Atari advertised it as at a 64 bit console, although this is a little mis-leading. It was certianly the best console of its time, technically speaking, but suffered from a poor games catalogue. It was first released at $250, which included the console, a controller, and a single game, 'Cybermorph'.

Technical Specifications
The Jaguar was a true powerouse, it had no less than 5 processors. The main processor was a standard Motorola 68000 clocked at 13.295MHz, This was assisted by two graphics co-processors, called Tom and Jerry. The other two were standard co-processors. The 5 processors could be made to run in parallel for superb performance.

Communication is performed with a high speed 64-bit data bus, rated at 106.364 Megabytes/second, although the 68000 is only able to access 16 bits of this bus at a time. The 64-bit bus is really a cost cutting measure, it allowed blindingly fast preformance, out of cheap standard DRAM.

The confusion about wheather its really a 64bit console is because of the object processor and the blitter, which are true 64-bit chips, because they are inside the 'Tom' graphics processor, this makes Tom [technically] a 64-bit chip, it also has a 64-bit data bus. So its really a super fast 64-bit graphics processor with standard 32-bit co-processors and controller. You make up your own mind :)

Accessories
The Jaguar had al the standard stuff, including light gun. But it also had a cool little device that allowed you to connect your Jaguar to your Lynx (Atari's colour handheld), and other Jaguars for multiplayer games. Up to 32 could be connected at once! The Digital Signal Processor port allows connection to modems and digital audio peripherals (such as DAT players).
