Above: I've painted the platform a dark grey colour and tried to paint a white stripe at the edge - though the result does not look as good from this angle. I've put a fence up on the other side of the platform edge. Behind the fence will be a very small wood, and there is presently a gas tank there - so that I could see how the fence looks against industrial buildings. The village road is in place, having been resurfaced, and painted black/grey. I've tried to make the tunnel portal look as though it is of concrete construction, using grey card.
The grass on the right is created using Javis Scenics. I spread glue on the surface then sprinkled on the scatter. Javis scenics are fairly cheap, but their colours run when wet. This means you cannot spray dilute PVA on top to hold them in position, without a unrealistic colour wash effect.
The track ballast is Woodland Scenics Fine Light Grey, and is nice to work with. I don't know whether the grey is the best colour to use with concrete sleeper track (i.e. grey sleepers, so I'm going to try another colour...

Above: I've mixed black poster paint with polyfiller and painted the mix onto the polystyrene rock face. The photo shows it a little darker than it is in reality. Also, the colour of the dry polyfiller is a lot lighter than the wet mix.

Above: A few days later, I finished the hill area behind the station building. This time using B&Q filler and slightly less black poster paint. I've photoed this when it is fully dry (you know when it goes lighter). In the background, behind the white building I've used modelling clay to add texture to the polystyrene blocks. In turn, this will be covered with filler like the other areas. The bushes opposite the station platform are Woodland Scenics foliage - an excellent product.
Another building has been started in the terrace but difficult to see in the view above. It needs a roof putting on before the rain arrives.
