Thalwil - Previous Progress Reports

14 December 2005

Excellent progress has been made on my baseboard. It will be approximately 1400x2400mm or 4' something by 8' initially, although it is extendable in length by another 1500mm or about 5'. Two sides of the layout are against the wall, so I've left gaps of 400mm wide (more than 1' wide) to be able to get in and do some installations. The baseboard can accommodate ovals of radius R2 to R6.

The following diagram shows the overall layout split into four 'A' sections and two B sections.

bulletA:    4 off 1200x400mm
bulletB:    2 off 400x400mm

The baseboard is supported off the floor by four trestles.

I have made the four 'A' sections shown below and have connected them together. Initial observations show that this design can easily span an unsupported distance of 2m.

The baseboard plan. I initially assembled four 'A' modules and then the 'B' modules which then go in between These are the trestles, one goes into each corner. The baseboard modules are not fastened to the trestles, but two plastic wedges on the trestle top stops the frames sliding side to side.

Four 'A' modules constructed but waiting to be moved into position for the plywood tops The modules in position, and plywood tops being added

Construction begins on the Kibri kit "Haus „Am Alexanderplatz” - Alexander office building". I am using PVA glue to bond the parts and using masking tape to fix the pieces while the glue is wet.

Excellent progress has been made on my woodwork. I have made the four 'A' sections shown below and have connected them together. Initial observations show that this design can easily span a distance of 2m.

The following picture shows four 'A' sections. Two 'A's are joined together, sat on top of another two 'A's. In the background, is the cut wood which will be made into 'B' and 'C' sections. Note I've yet to fabricate the plywood tops for any of the sections.
