Durham Challenge Cup Round 2

Billingham Town 2 : Bishop Auckland 1

8 November, 2005

Team:  John Mohan, John Barker, Daniel Newby, Paul Crager, James Crossman, Craig Robson, Damon Robson, Michael Oliver, Mark Sheeran, Daniel Fox, Aaron Fletcher

Bishop Auckland fielded a team weakened by injuries and cup ties and were unable to match a determined Billingham Town side on a night of torrential rain on Teesside.

The conditions nearly got the better of Mohan on 11 minutes when he fumbled a cross/shot just under the Bishops bar, but had time to recover.

Bishops failed to create any significant charges in the first half, and were lucky not to be behind on 35 minutes when Mohan was in the right place to save a close range header which could so easily have found the net.

Sheeran found some space on 48 minutes but fired a low shot just wide of the far post.  The opening goal came on 60 minutes.  Newby misjudged a through ball and was forced into giving away a free kick 35 yards from goal.  The kick was hit to the side of Bishops wall but rebounded into the air and was headed home by Hutchinson.

On 64 minutes the lead was doubled when Clark shot low to beat Mohan.   Damon Robson hit back on 68 minutes but Bishops were unable to restore parity.
