Bishops came more into the game as the half wore on, and on 38 minutes a ball over the top had the Shepshed 'keeper out of his area and scrambling the ball to safety with Newby ready to pounce.

A minute later Bishops should have levelled when Bowes found space wide on the left and clipped in a perfect cross for Robinson who failed to connect effectively from under six yards with the goal at his mercy.

Bishops were made to pay for this miss when Gray doubled the lead deep into injury time.

Bishops had a chance to get back into the game on 47 minutes when Robinson ran free but shinned his shot wide of the post.  Seconds later, the game moved further away from the home side when Thomas was allowed to fire in from a tight angle having beaten the offside.

Substitute Winspear looked dangerous after his introduction and almost scored on 59 minutes when he raced clear and rounded the 'keeper only to have his goalbound shot cleared from just in front of the line by a retreating defender.  Shepshed drove straight up the pitch and although the initial effort hit the underside of the bar Lambert forced in the rebound.
