Wednesday was a good night
for football, but the football was not good. On a pitch which made even
the most basic standard of football difficult, both sides failed to perform in
the opening half hour.
On 25 minutes Goole had the first real chance, when a shot was blocked by Shaw
on the line and hacked clear.
Parker was the first Bishops player to pick up a booking on 29 minutes for a
tackle.
Bishops only chance of the half came on 37 minutes when Winspear crossed for
Robinson to glance a header well wide from eight yards.
Storr picked up a card on 40 minutes for late tackle, and debutant Mohan joined
him in the book on the stroke of half time after a serious altercation,
instigated by a Goole player, which could have had more serious consequences had
the referee not been sprawling on the deck as the incident happened, having been
felled by a stumbling Bishops player.
Goole opened the scoring on 50 minutes when Davey rounded Bishops tenth 'keeper
of the season, Corbett, and slotted home past the man guarding the line.
On 61 minutes Bishops should have been level. Good work from Shaw found
Bowes whose pinpoint header was met by Robinson whose close range header missed
by inches.
After a long injury break while Storr received attention, the injured player
almost scored when he controlled the ball well on the edge of the area before
lashing a shot just past the post. Substitute Healy almost forced
the equaliser when his good work saw the ball break to Robinson who with his
back to the goal flicked the ball with his heel past the 'keeper but wide of the
target.
Whitehead settled the game on 84 minutes with a fierce shot which went in off
the inside of the post.
