Billingham Town 2 : Bishop Auckland 0

31 October, 2006

Team:  Jon Collinson, Steven Larkin, Steven Baynes, Paul Collins, Nicky Mohan, Martin Bowes (Brian Healy 74 mins), Levent Yalcin, Dale Mendum (Joe Fairish 68 mins), Paul Campbell (Andy Fletcher 70 mins), Gavin Parkin, Bryan Stewart

Bishops bowed out of cup competitions with a 2-0 defeat to Billingham Town at a desparately cold Bedford Terrace.

Stewart created a great chance for himself on 12 minutes when he twisted and turned to fool the defenders, but then aimed a weak lob at the goal which was easily dealt with.

Emms put Billingham in front on 13 minutes when he slotted past Collinson into the far corner.

Parkin almost equalised  when he deflected a cross from Baynes just wide of the post a minute later.

The match was largely uneventful from there in.  Bishops struggled to create clear chances in the final third, and Billingham fired in shots from all angles which tested the reflexes of those behind the goal, and the perimiter fencing.

The second goal came on 63 minutes when a free-kick awarded after a Collins foul was headed home from close range by McKie.

With 20 minutes to go Bishops did at least start to exert a bit of pressure, but once again were unable to penetrate the Town defence.
