Bishops made their first ever league visit to Seaham Red Star and came away
with all three points courtesy of substitute Darren Richardson’s second half
brace. Chris Porter returned in goal
and Amar Purewal replaced Ben Jackson up front.
Bishops, playing into the wind in the first half, had a
chance in the first minute when Coghlan’s cross flicked off a defender’s head
and flew just wide of the ‘keeper’s left hand post. Bishops dominated possession in the opening
minutes and on 15 minutes another great chance came when a cross was kneed
inches wide of the post. A corner was
incorrectly awarded and the flag kick was headed over the bar by Purewal.
A minutes later another cross, this time from Clarkson, was
met by Purewal who glanced a header wide of the far post.
Sean Joseph looked dangerous on the right and on 20 minutes
beat his man for pace, and attempted to chip ex-Bishops keeper Finch, but the
ball flew inches wide with the ‘keeper beaten.
Five minutes later Parkin found Purewal who raced through but fired in a
weak shot wide which was easily collected.
Seaham almost took the lead on 33 minutes when a deep cross
was headed in by an unmarked forward, but the attacker was in an offside
position.
Sean Joseph attempted a repeat of his earlier chip on 39
minutes but picked up a thigh injury, and was replaced by Darren Richardson
soon after.
The home side took the lead on 42 minutes when a long
swirling shot from Price was saved by Porter, but Holmes reacted fastest to the
rebound and blasted home.
After the interval, Bishops responded immediately with a great
goal brining the scores level on 48 minutes.
A deep cross from Gamble on the left was backheeled by Fairish to Clarkson
who swung the ball back into the box.
The ball was knocked into the air, and
On 49 minutes Fairish dinked the ball just over the bar
after another dangerous cross from Clarkson.
The next chance came to Purewal who fired in a long range shot on 60
minutes but Finch dived to his right to save.
The winner came on 63 minutes. Gamble sent an excellent cross which was
headed up into the air by a defender.
Newall attacked the ball, winning the resulting header and the ball
dropped to Richardson who spun and shot into the far corner of the net.
The game opened up in the final third, but Bishops retained
the lead with some ease to record their fourth away league win of the season.
