Bishops are staring into the abyss after a shocking first 20
minutes left Bishops in destroyed, and despite the traditional second half fight
back Jarrow hung on for a deserved win.
On a bright but cool afternoon, the game kicked off on a bobbly
pitch which Jarrow took to with ease. In
eight minutes Bishops were one down when the defense pushed out unsuccessfully
to play for offside and there was a simple tap in past Keen in the

A minute later a dipping 30 yard drive was tipped over by
Keen as Roofing continued to dominate.
On the 15 minute mark the lead was doubled when a low cross was tapped
in from close range. The home side
missed two further straightforward chances and had a shot deflected up onto the
roof of the net. Bishops were on the
rack.
It took half an hour for Bishops to get into the game. Parkin chased down the ball forcing a poor
clearance from the Roofing ‘keeper whose low hit went to Ellison who clipped a
shot over the ‘keeper’s head but inches wide.
Ball, Joseph and Harrison all squandered reasonable shooting
opportunities from just outside the area with the ball flying over the bar with
increasing regularity. However, on the
stroke of half time Gamble slotted a ball down the left to
Carl Chillingsworth replaced Paul Crager at half time, and
Bishops start to the second period was electric. Inside the first couple of minutes Gamble
crossed to Ellison who headed against the face of the bar.
Bishops were on the attack and Parkin was the next to get a
chance when he shot low to the ‘keeper’s left but the ball was saved
comfortably.
On 58 minutes Ball shot wide from a corner, and a minute
later a slick move between Chillingsworth and Ball resulted in a cross which
Parkin flashed just wide.
Bishops continued to press and with time running out Moss
charged through and fed Chilingsworth who flicked to Parkin, but the striker’s
shot was weak.
Jarrow missed a 90th minute one on one which
would have sealed the game with Keen diving full length to block the
substitutes shot.

There were a number of minutes of injury time, mainly due to
the amount of time trying to find the two available balls after they had been
humped from the ground by jumpy home defenders.
On 92 minutes Chillingsworth controlled a deep cross and slotted low to
Parkin who appeared to just needed to nudge the ball into the net with the ‘keeper
beaten, but a defender’s leg cleared the ball as Parkin hesitated. A 93rd minute corner was well
saved by the Roofing ‘keeper and the whistle went. The home side celebrated a famous victory
which potentially brings them back into the race for safety, and leaves Bishops
adrift in the bottom three.
