Another windy day at Dean Street.  The first half started in mild drizzle with Whitley Bay having the better of the elements.  Bishops were without the injured Paul Moss, Darren Richardson, Lee Ellison and Andrew Harrison, whilst Lee Foster and Joe Fairish were fit enough to start.  Kevin Dixon continues his six week suspension.

There was very little of note in the first half with Parkin firing a low cross shot which rolled agonisingly wide of the post and Chillingsworth’s outstretched leg on 25 minutes.

Peter Keen pulled off a fine save on 37 minutes when he dived full length to his right to push a fierce shot out for a corner.

The game was decided in the final minutes of the first half.  On 43 minutes Paul Robinson fired in a speculative shot which took the power of the wind and flew into the top of the Bishops net.

A minute later Whitley Bay were awarded a penalty for a pull / push / trip / handball (delete as appropriate based on how you saw the offence) and Kerr slotted it home with ease.

The second half was littered with chances at both ends.  Bay missed a string of chances to end the contest, and Bishops missed a number of chances to get back into the game.

Whitley Bay had a “goal” ruled out for offside on 58 minutes.  Peter Keen pulled off a good save on 61 minutes when he palmed a shot from the left over the bar.

On 66 minutes Parkin passed to substitute Purewal who knocked the ball across to Chillingsworth but the stirker’s shot was inches wide of the target.

Lee Kerr embarrassingly headed wide with the goal gaping on 68 minutes, and a 70th minute shot hit the post as Bishops goal led a charmed life.

Gavin Parkin created a great chance for himself which ended in a dipping shot which just missed the outside of the far post.  Another Parkin chance on 83 minutes was toe-poked straight at ‘keeper Burke as Bishops found it impossible to get into the game.
