Bishop Auckland 0 : Spennymoor Town 1

Team: Chris Porter,  Lee Foster,  Dominic Gamble, Kevin Dixon, Martin Langley, Paul Crager, Joe Fairish, Curt Warburton, Gavin Parkin, Carl Chillingsworth, Darren Richardson (Amar Purewal 71mins)

Spennymoor’s footballing franchisees once again got the better of the Two Blues but for the first time since Evenwood relocated, Bishops gave the black and whites a real game.

There were chances at both ends in the first half.  Bishops should have after 25 minutes when Richardson hooked in a cross and Warburton missed a simple chance to opening the scoring when he sidefooted wide with the goal gaping.

Minutes later Parkin was in the clear but saw his shot saved by ‘keeper Lawson’s legs.

Just after the half hour, the Town almost took the lead when Jamie Clarke rose at the far post to head a deep cross against the near upright.

Spennymoor took the lead on 51 minutes when Raw hung out a leg to deflect the ball home from close range to make it 1-0.

Joe Fairish was unlucky not to equalise on 52 minutes when the midfielder shot from 25 yard, but his dipping shot was tipped onto the bar by Lawson.

Curt Warburton missed an easy chance on 62 minutes after Gamble’s low cross had caused Lawson to spill the ball, but the midfielder fell back and his shot cleared the bar.

Warburton was again in the action as his free kick after Fairish was upended on the edge of the box was tipped over for a corner.

Bishops continued to press and a deep cross from Fairish was met at the far post by Chillingsworth who headed back across the box but hacked clear by a Moors defender.

Porter pulled off a good save on 86 minutes, but Bishops were unable to force any further chances, leaving Bishops first division survival hanging by the slenderest of threads.
