A farcical afternoon at Ironworks Road with the match finally abandoned at 3.44pm after just 16 minutes of play.

The game began under a shroud of fog and with the sun burning through the gloom visibilty was particularly difficult from the high side of the ground.

Bishops almost took the lead on 3 minutes when a ball from the low side found Emson who looked to have stroked the ball into the net.  What happened next remains a mystery, but the ball didn’t cross the line and ended up going out for a corner.

Fog & Sun just after play was temporarily suspended at 3.04

After lengthy deliberations involving officials, players and supporters which included a laughable exhibition of semaphore between the two referee’s assistants the referee finally decided to restart the game.

After (effectively) 11 minutes Amar Purewal crossed and Poskett punched the ball up to Gredziak whose overhead kick went just wide.

Salvin shields the ball seconds before the abandonment.

Tow Law had a chance soon after with the ball being lobbed over Jeffries but the ball went out for a goal kick.

Three times during the play the referee asked the troubled assistant if he was ok.  Twice he answered in the affermative, but on the third occasion the officials consulted before the final whistle was blown prematurely.

With no tannoy announcements the disgruntled supporters drifted out and home.
