BISHOPS AND PENRITH PICK UP POINT A PIECE

 

Penrith grabbed an undeserved point two minutes from time as Bishops dominated the chances in a six goal thriller.  Bishops were ahead, level, behind, level and ahead again before the late strike.  Two goals for Emson and one for Gredziak in a competitive performance against one of the league’s better sides.

FRIENDLY WIN AT WILLINGTON

 

Bishops ran in seven goals at Willington despite giving them the services of goalkeepers Peter Jeffries, Ryan Graham and defender Jake Richardson during the match.  Playing without Masters, Moss, Gredziak, Salvin and Emson, the goalscoring was left to Darren Richardson who picked up a hat-trick with Joe Grant, Adam Strong and Amar Purewal all scoring. Kit-man Michael Walker was a second half substitute and scored the sixth goal.

HALLOWEEN HORROR SHOW AT RYTON

 

Bishops put in a Frankenstein performance at Ryton and the badly assembled outfit were hacked to pieces by Ryton.  The opening goal came from the spot when Arjun Purewal was adjudged to have handled in the area.  A second before half time, and after Emson missed a great chance early in the second half Ryton hit another on the break.  Bishops consolation came at 5-0 when Darren Richardson fired home from a tight angle.

LATE GREDZIAK STRIKE GIVES NORTON BLUES

 

A real thriller at Norton with Gredziak setting up Masters twice in an end to end first half which Bishops led 2-0.  Norton hit back with two goals early in the second half and looked to be heading for a win before Bishops battled back.  Salvin missed a penalty and Masters hit the post before Gredziak’s 94th minute strike.

CHAMPIONS EDGE BATTLING BISHOPS

 

Bishops took an early lead with an Emson individual goal opening the scoring on fifteen minutes but Benfield took command after the break to equalise then an unfortunate Chris Lawson scored an own goal to give the league champions the points.

CHALLENGE CUP DEFEAT AT NORTON

 

Bishops put in a miserable performance on a miserable night at Norton.  The home side dominated the first half, with Bishops coming more into the match after the interval.  However, it was Norton who broke the deadlock with extra time looming, and a second goal just before the final whistle settled the tie.

FIRST BAFC / BASMJ LINK DAY – 24 OCTOBER

 

Saturday will be the first of hopefully many link days between Bishop Auckland FC and Bishop Auckland St.Mary’s Juniors FC.  St.Mary’s U7 team will be acting as mascots for the day with the U8A and U8B teams taking part in a half time penalty shoot out competition.  Some extra support for the team as we take on the 2008/9 league champions.

STEELMEN THRASHED BY RAMPANT BISHOPS

 

Bishops handed Consett a 3-0 beating and although two of the three came from late penalties, the Two Blues strikeforce spurned a string of first half chances which should have had the game won before half time.  Emson opened the scoring just after the break and Salvin converted the spot-kicks to give Bishops the win.

TWO BLUES DISAPPOINT BUT GET POINT

 

After Saturday’s great performance Bishops never really lived up to higher expectations but still took another point from the home game with Billingham Town.  Masters gave Bishops the lead early in the second half but Town hit back soon after and dominated for large passages of the game without breaching Bishops defence again.

BISHOPS EXTEND COMMUNITY PROJECTS 

 

As work steps up towards the club’s return to the town, Bishop Auckland FC have extended their community focus with initiatives to encourage local children to attend Bishop Auckland FC games.  The initiative has been generously supported by Bishop Auckland Town Council.

BATTLING BISHOPS BEAT BEDLINGTON

 

Bishops came from a goal down to beat Bedlington Terriers.  Debutant Adam Emson scored the equaliser before Simon Ord grabbed the winner with eight minutes remaining.  An excellent second half performance which lifts Bishops further up the league table.

SHILDON EDGE CLASSIC GAME OF TWO HALVES

 

An early lead for Bishops with Masters scoring in the opening minutes and the Bishops missed a string of chances in a one sided first half.  However, the Blues failed to show after the break and Shildon scored two to take the points.

MARATHON TREK – FINAL TOTALS

 

36 walkers took part in this year’s fourth annual Marathon Trek putting in a record 751 aggregate miles.  A gruelling route from Billingham to Bishop Auckland via Norton, Thorpe Thewles, Sedgefield, Bishop Middleham, Ferryhill and Spennymoor.  The event raises thousands for BAFC and various charities.  The final Sponsorship total raised has ended up at a record £4,502.35.

DUNSTON GAME BLOWN OFF

 

Bishops suffered a late postponement at Dunston when the referee deemed the game unplayable due to high winds.

CHESTER CRUSHED ON THE ROAD

 

Bishops made a fantastic start at Chester Moor when Joe Grant was hacked to the ground from behind in the penalty area which reduced the home side to ten men.  Salvin slotted home the penalty and Tyson Masters added a second just before the break.  Chester pulled a goal back midway through the second half but Masters hit back immediately and Ord finished the scoring with a shot from the edge of the box.  4 – 1.

HONOURS EVEN AT WEST ALLOTMENT

 

Another point won at West Allotment Celtic as Wayne Gredziak gave Bishops an early lead volleying home a Jeffries clearance but Celtic equalised fifteen minutes from time.  Both sides missed chances to take the points, but a fair result in an even game.

SQUAD RESHUFFLE CONTINUES

 

Bishops gave debuts to forward Tyson Masters and young defender Jonathan Stockell this week and have put several players on the transfer list to reduce the squad.  Liam Clough, Dan Lennon, Adam Strong, Andrew Richardson, David Hill, Chris Killeen, Joe Fairish, Luke Gilbert and Martin Langley are all available for transfer.

BISHOPS CRUISE TO CHALLENGE CUP WIN

 

Bishops ran out comfortable winners in the Durham Challenge Cup preliminary round tie at Wearside League Houghton Town, winning 5-0 with debutant Tyson Masters netting twice with Stephen Salvin, Darren Richardson and Gavin Parkin getting the other goals.  Bishops area away in the next round to Norton & Stockton Ancients.

FUNDRAISING EVENING – 22 OCTOBER

 

Bishop Auckland FC are holding a fundraising evening on Thursday 22nd October.  An Evening with top rated sports impressionist Aaron James starts at 7pm at the Manor House, West Auckland.  Tickets priced £30 which includes a 2 course dinner are available by contacting any of the club management team or committee or Mail Me for tickets.

VASE HUMBLING AT HALL ROAD RANGERS

 

Bishops will have to make alternative storage arrangements for their horticultural stock after crashing out of the FA Vase at Hall Road Rangers.  Behind early on to an Andrew Richardson own goal there was no recovery and a second just before half time increased the difficulty.  After both sides missed chances in the second half Rangers notched a third with ten minutes to go to end the tie.

LATE LATE SHOW GIVES BISHOPS DERBY HONOUR

 

Two goals in the final two minutes secured a 2-1 victory for Bishops as West.  Stuart Irvine had given the home side the lead with a good shot on the turn midway through the first half.  West also missed a penalty before Arjun Purewal grabbed an 88th minute equaliser and as Bishops piled on the pressure Salvin slotted home a 90th minute penalty after a double hand ball.

FA CUP RUN ENDS AT BRADFORD

 

UniBond League side Bradford Park Avenue ended Bishops FA Cup run with a 4-1 defeat.  Stephen Salvin equalised Bradford’s opener when he converted a penalty.  Two goals either side of a Peter Jeffries penalty save made it 3-1 at half time and another goal early in the second half ended the scoring in what turned out to be a comfortable win for the home side.

BISHOPS BEATEN (UP) BY HORDEN

 

Bishops twice came from behind at home to Horden before going down to an injury time deflected shot in a game marred by the sickening assault of Bishops substitute Steven West by an out of control Kevin Devine which earned the Horden striker a red card.

TEN MEN BISHOPS EDGE VASE TIE

 

Things looked bleak when Bishops were reduced to ten men with the sending off of midfielder Mark Henson early in the second half.  However, Stephen Salvin booked Bishops a place in the next round with a looping header ten minutes from time.
