PUREWAL GOAL DEFEATS BRAVE ATHLETIC

Summer finally arrived at Coxhoe, and Amar Purewal scored midway though the second half to give Bishops a friendly victory over Wearside League side Coxhoe Athletic.  On a sunny evening, Brian Honour again experimented with a number of new players before Amar scored his second in two games, firing in when a free kick ran kindly in the area, to make it 1-0.

DERBY DRAW SOURED BY INJURY

Bishops friendly with Crook Town was delayed for over half an hour after a Crook defender was injured in a 50/50 tackle with Kevin Dixon inside the first five minutes of the game.  The game finally restarted just after 8pm and Crook Town took the lead before Amar Purewal equalised after an incisive pass form Ellison.  Bishops led just after the break with a good goal from Manson, but a direct free kick on 65 minutes made it 2-2.  Even a lengthy delay to remove a playful canine from the pitch failed to lift the mood at what was understandably a subdued match.

JACKIE FOSTER JOINS COACHING TEAM

Bishop Auckland legend Jackie Foster has returned to the club as a coach.  Foster, who gained a reputation at the old Kingsway for his tough and determined tackling, has watched plenty of Bishops matches in recent seasons and his son Lee now plays in Bishops’ defence.

But now Foster has accepted an offer to join the Bishops’ staff as a coach.  “Jackie will be a massive help to me,” said manager Brian Honour.

“He loves the club, and he is a Bishop legend from his playing days. He could turn out to be one of my best signings”
