Judo Kata

There are two principal ways of practicing Judo : Kata and Randori.  Kata, which literally means "form," is practiced following a formal system of prearranged exercise, while Randori, meaning "free exercise" is practiced freely.  Judo Kata is the best way of defense and attack in various cases.  (SOURCE - The Kodokan)

Kata is an extremely important aspect of a Judoka's training.  Many clubs concentrate solely on competition training, often neglecting Kata.  Some judoka have the view that Kata is only practised by those who are unable to compete in Shiai because of injury/health.  Those people who hold these views, I urge them to think again.
