CROMBIE GOLF SOCIETY

HISTORY

The golf society was formed in 1961 by a group of Civil Servants from the Ministry of Defence Naval Establishment at Rosyth Royal Dockyard.

The first trophy was donated by J.T. Smith and was won by R. Cockburn. Over the years numerous trophies and  cups have been donated by society members - W. Bell, E. Watt, M. Shirkie, J. McKay, J. Simpson and D. Torbett.

The society has been running continuously for 45 years and membership has varied from 6 in its infancy to 45 at its peak. Although in recent years, with the demise of the MOD establishments in the area, the membership was opened up to non-MOD personnel and now stands at a healthy 29 members.

The society plays 5 outings per season at various courses within a sixty mile radius and numerous trophies are on offer. Two handicap divisions are contested over the season with the best five scores from the available nine. An eclectic trophy is also contested. The summer cup is a four day stableford event which has been running for the past three years, with trips to the Borders and Moray areas.

The Society hopes to celebrate it's half centenary in 2011.
